Economy Trump weighs giving Americans $2,000 from tariff revenues in bid for support

What fact did I mention that was incorrect?

And if someone wants to live alone, they should earn more money. Living alone is privilege and choice, not something the government should guarantee.
I love that I got you to be left and right in the same post. You're making some weird argument to win by any means necessary. Great job buddy...

That's right why should people have their own living arrangements. Everyone single should live in SROs, with roommates, parents, or maybe in a car. Dignity is not for the single or poors.
Why don't you want to answer: What does the rest of someone's spending look like that earning over a 100 grand prevents them from saving money and getting by?

I am not your accountant I don't need to itemize shit for you. Suffice it to say you're talking very confidently about things you don't know nor understand.

The average commute in the Bay Area is 30 mins, with the majority driving less. The area also has better public transit than a lot of American metros. In Santa Clara, the majority drive 30 mins or less. This is better than the IE by a substantial margin, for example.

And?

Data>vibes from someone with no media literacy or critical thinking ability.

When talking out of your ass goes horribly wrong while feigning intellectual superiority and some fake morality...well except single folks being forced to live in communes or whatever equivalent bullshit you came up with...
What are these places? IF you're buying for a dollar, you're more or less buying a run down lot that needs a complete overhaul.

Oh I don't know...open Google and you'll get instant results. ....Europe has same deals in some cities...
Except people have a choice as to where to live.

Such a disingenuous position. People live where they were born, have their families, support systems,etc...this is yet another delusional out of touch comment from you...
Let's make this simple, to show how silly your idea is: How many people in the country fall under your definition of low income?

Are you so retarded you don't understand relative cost of living? Living in Santa Clara/San Mateo/San Francisco/Marin/Etc County in CA is different than living in Central CA or especially elsewhere like Midwest, South, etc...you're being bad faith here...

The new tariffs will only raise about $200-$250 billion this year, which means if we used every single dollar you can only cover 100 million Americans or so at $2,000 a check.

And? Except the money is being handed out not to people who actually contributed to those taxes but at random by arbitrary income level ...it's yet another stimulus check but that fails to account for the COLA differences. You have very similar living standards at 50-75k in the South and Midwest as you do at 100-150k in Bay Area.

It's almost as if I have a fairly consistent set of beliefs and don't pick and choose based on party ID...

What country can you name where this exists?

I can actually get behind the notion that people midway through their careers should be able to afford a studio apartment and still have money left over. But paying people making over 100 grand is a poor way of accomplishing that goal. You're better off adjusting the EITC or probably dozens of over policies before you get to let's just pay most of the country 2K.
I am not your accountant I don't need to itemize shit for you. Suffice it to say you're talking very confidently about things you don't know nor understand.
You don't need to be an accountant to realize that making $115K as a single adult with no kids is more than enough to make rent, put money in your 401K and even save a little. Even in the heart of Silicon Valley.
You claimed it was complete BS that people in the IE have comparable or worst commutes than the Bay Area. It's almost as if you don't know what you're talking about and now don't want to admit you were wrong.
And yes, commuting sucks but it's common in nearly every major metro area. The Bay Area's commutes are in line with other expensive cities and frankly better than someone living in the IE and commuting into LA or OC to work every day.
Complete bs.
Oh I don't know...open Google and you'll get instant results. ....Europe has same deals in some cities...
You're the one making the claim, prove it. You have a tendency to read headlines and then butcher the actual story.
Such a disingenuous position. People live where they were born, have their families, support systems,etc...this is yet another delusional out of touch comment from you...
That's ideal, but the reality is people move where they need to go ecoomically. Always has been, always will be.

What's actually out of touch is claiming that people who make $116,000 a year are somehow low income and as much in need of stimulus checks as the rest of the country. Let me break down how idiotic that argument is. If you make that income, you are literally the upper class:
-60th percentile in your MSA
-79th percentile in California
-Top 20% of income in the entire country
Are you so retarded you don't understand relative cost of living? Living in Santa Clara/San Mateo/San Francisco/Marin/Etc County in CA is different than living in Central CA or especially elsewhere like Midwest, South, etc...you're being bad faith here...
I'm perfectly aware of COL. You seem completely obvious to the fact that you are upper middle class, at worst, if you make $116K as an individual in Santa Clara's MSA. There are millions of people in your county who actually get by on under $75K who need help far more than those making close to double that.
And? Except the money is being handed out not to people who actually contributed to those taxes but at random by arbitrary income level ...it's yet another stimulus check but that fails to account for the COLA differences. You have very similar living standards at 50-75k in the South and Midwest as you do at 100-150k in Bay Area.
What part of the country do you think has half the COL as Silicon Valley?

And the fact that you can't even answer the simple question proves how little you know. I asked because you're proposing spending probably double what we've taken in via tariffs. Where do you propose getting the money for that?

Like I said: The answer to a regressive policy isn't to pile yet another regressive policy on it.

@avenue94, @DEVILsSON

You guys realize this is only a topic in the first place because of Trump's idiotic tarriff regime, right? It's like Trump handed you guys a stack of his dirty diapers and you're waving them around trying to smack each other.

He has already backtracked on many of them and I think he's going to keep going. So I am pretty sure this $2000 check thing isn't going to happen and you're splitting hairs over a moot point.

100% it's never happening

I agree it probably won't happen under this guise, but the broader issue I took was that the upper class Americans have an issue of playing poor and siphoning money off form actual folks who need it more.

Fair enough, but the dicussion ceased having anything to do with the thread topic long ago. Why not start a new thread just for that, or take it to PM for that matter?

You're mostly right, and the answer is laziness.

It's fake talk from you. Lol .we know

I forgot to respond to this a few days ago, but what do you mean fake talk and "we know"? You claim "your prices are the same" which is total bullshit if you are living in America and buying goods like everyone else does. Almost everything has gone up in price, most quite a bit actually.

This was just an opportunity for Avenue to tell me how things really are in an area I fucking live in and which he visits every once in a while but hey he always seems to know better. Also I didn't realize it but our progressive friend thinks the poors(or even middle class) in high cost of living areas(literally the highest COLA in the US) don't deserve to live in standalone apartments and should live with roommates or in SROs. Also apparently living in the middle of nowhere in the South/Midwest and Silicon Valley/SF is the same ...also he knows more than multiple articles discussing the challenges of living in the most expensive area of the country ....

You don't have to tell me about Trump I know ...this dumbfuck president has repeatedly fucked over our state and area...

Told y'all it would never happen.

Guess what ?

Never happened !!

And not happening.

You have to be a real special person to ever think this was going to happen.

There is a problem with Trump though in that he says so much dumb stuff that when he doesn't do it, it was obviously never going to happen, yet when he does something equally or even more dumb, it was obvious he was going to do it.

Whether you're a supporter or not, the guy is both stupid and unpredictable.

I can't take claims anything was obvious seriously anymore.

This tariff thing has been nothing more than a TAX ON AMERICANS. We just get to pay MORE, and the government gets to scalp that for themselves.

I've seen absolutely no benefit from this, just more cost. Fuck the tariffs and Fuck Trump.

The cost of living just keeps going up.

To determine which is which, just ask yourself, will this make money for him and/or other rich people, or harm his enemies, minorities, or poor people? Then yes, it's going to happen. Will this potentially improve the lives of his constituents? Then no, it's not gonna happen. Simple.

Paying down the debt would be a better use.
Listen to me: our debt is 37 trillion. It will never never never never never never never never never never never never never never be repaid.

Nor was it designed to be.

Do with that information what you will.

But preferably stop making dumb ass posts about paying it back.

These posts are literally on "let's just colonize Mars as a solution to climate change" levels of stupidity.
