This is wrong. HW champs are not cursed, they are bound by the fact that in the HW division (the real and actual MMA division) one punch can end it all no matter how good you are or how much success you have had in the past and Jon Jones knows this and wants to play the game without actually playing the game. It's worked for him so far cherry picking fights but let's see what happens if he really wants to take on the top of the division one by one. If he can mount several defenses against legit contenders, I am as ready as anyone to declare him the overall MMA goat.
I mean we've seen plenty of fighters at HW go on long streaks with good fighters. While I admit KO power plays a dangerous role at HW more than any other weight class, I think it's an oversimplification to say no champ can get a defense streak over 3 defenses. In fact there are guys that went to bang with massive chins and never got KO'd like Hunt or Nelson. I'm sure eventually Jones could get KO'd but it's not guaranteed in his 3rd HW fight if we're talking about a statistical chance of getting clipped.

Dana took a 180 on Jon around this time after years of shitting on him and to get the dirty taste out of their mouth about the Ngannou departure and to stick it to him for walking away with the HW belt. They needed something solid to spin to maintain the best fighter on the planet for image sake. Millions of dollars are at stake, and we all are aware refs can be 'persuaded' as can judges... It only takes 3 people for this to happen and I think they made it happen. But I don't want to turn this into a conspiracy thread.
It's almost expected for the greats to get an L at the end of their career. For the right price, why not pass the torch? It doesn't change what he did in his prime. That's what he's going to give us here. Give the people what they want, and the people want to see him beat down and give the rub to someone else. He's willing to for a certain price it looks like. Jon's old, he was struggling at LHW, made some smart choices and shady politics behind the scenes has made his HW run look good, but if he takes this for "FU" money, his haters are going to finally get their dessert and will start up on the "He was never that good" BS after.
