Jon Jones fanbase is ruining his legacy

Meh
If he destroys Stipe, which I think he will and retires after he'll be fine
Yes there'll be quite a lot of people who know the context behind these matches, but in a few years from now most casuals will just see it as another Jones win

Like it sucks, but it's the same with Floyd's resume for example. As long as he gets the wins and stays undefeated, people will forget the details
The iffy matchmaking is shitty, don't get me wrong and Aspinall is royally getting fucked, but fans are very forgetful unfortunately

Nah, people really underestimate that these days shit will live way longer on the internet, especially things that have to do with the most prominent and controversial figures of the sport. And as Tom will continue on fighting it will keep being mentioned, especially if he keeps winning he will always be referred to as the guy Jon did his hardest to duck. Every YTer through which a lot of casuals will get informed will bring it up once in a while. I wouldn't be surprised if the UFC used it to market Tom, once Jon is finally gone. All the Jon is the GOAT talk from Dana will flip so quickly once they don't have use of him anymore.

Even in old boxing documentaries they often still tell what the narrative was going into fights and that's sometimes about 100+ years ago.

And let's not forget the MMA community is largely about what have you done for me lately and you're only as good as your last fight. Ending it in this way is not a smart plan if you really care about your legacy.

There’s some truth to that, but if Tom loses even once, people will lean into Jon’s narrative that he was just a "flash in the pan," which puts a ton of pressure on Tom
Like while the Reyes bout is still talked about of a robbery, many dismiss it since Reyes went on a skid right after, it's stupid I know lol

If Jones looks like shit on Saturday night, it'll be a different story since like you said it'll be the last thing they see of Jon
That being said, if he beats Stipe easily, I don't think he'll get that much crap over the next few years

nothing "autistic" about wanting a champ to defend his belt.

Jones is a great fighter but if you seriously think he's a good human being then you're a shit judge of character.
You just went from wanting him to defend to character judging in two sentences

Sounds pretty autistic to me.

Jones has the most miserable loser haters out of any athlete in sports history lol it's pretty sad

Why does it suck? How is aspinall getting fucked?

Because he's the interim champion and got skipped over. They're letting the #8 guy fight for the belt despite him not winning a fight since 2020, that's pretty insane
I also don't think the winner of this will fight him

Yeah but that's a retirement fight man you know this.

You gotta remember why he's interim champ. They didn't have to even do an interim champ. Aspinall is not getting fucked over at all. As a matter of fact being given an interim title in his situation is much like gsp Vs bisping. Tom will be promoted to champion after the fight, tom is making champion ship bonuses every fight and this fight was made before tom was interim champ.

I just don't see how he's being "wronged" in anyway. The UFC is doing all that they can for him, they've given every incentive for him to keep fighting. He just fought in June will fight volkov Vs gane winner for the undisputed titled probably April/may of next year.

The one thing Jones is right about, above all things, is that beating aspinall does nothing for his legacy

I don't mind it being a retirement bout, my issue is it's for the title despite the champion not fighting the next contender
If this was set as a non championship fight, I'd be fine with it and Jon seems to understand that since he's even mention vacating the belt after to fight Pereira after this

The point behind an interim championship is to solidify a number one contender and unify the belts afterwards. The UFC have been iffy with this logic of course, like the example you mentioned in Bisping/GSP, but it still should hold some weight since having two champions doesn't make a ton of sense

Again, the fight is fine, just take the belt off of it and let the division progress since now there hasn't been an undisputed title fight in nearly two years(Jones/Gane)

you need to learn to read.

I never said aspinall is a can. i said if Jones beats him, the narrative will be that aspinall is a can. Just like Gane is now a can according to the MMA fan base. Once he was an undefeated Champion who arguably beat Francis, straight to one dimensional bum after losing to jones.

I JUST watched you dumb fucks do it.

That might be the fight we all want to see, but Jones is not obliged to deliver it.

Maybe you shouldn't base your view of the sport on what a few dumbfucks say after a fight? That makes YOU the dumb fuck. Gane was clearly punked and scared and lost the Jones fight before he ever got in the cage. But anyone who thinks that makes him a "can" isn't worth listening to anyway. He had a terrible night and didn't want to be there. That's it.

What exactly is your argument? You think anyone is claiming that Jones can be forced to fight the guy he should fight LMAO? It's simple. Fight Tom for the belt if he beats Stipe, retire, or forfeit the belt and fight Alex or whoever he wants in "legacy" fights.

It's like you feel the need to argue from Jon's perspective. Why? Just be someone who likes the sport and wants to see the best fight the best.

The division has progressed though. Tom got to defend his interim title in his Home country, get all his championship bonuses and avenge his only UFC loss to Blaydes.

Gane is fighting Volkov next month, whom will fight tom. Tom, Just fought in July.

there isn't some long queue of contenders. Tom Aspinalls prime is not being wasted. I agree about this fight not requiring a belt for the purpose it serves, but giving tom the REAL HW belt in July, and having this fight without a HW title. changes absolutely nothing.

That's the thing, his and Jones titles are technically disputed in that duration which is where it causes confusion for me
So both their defenses have a weird sense around it since neither are fighting the best guy available

I'd agree to disagree here, but I do hope after this fight both Jon or Stipe retire if they have no intention on defending the title against Tom
If it's Tom up against the Gane/Volkov 2 winner, I'm kinda lean for Gane winning since I wanna see a fresh matchup there

Really most "jon jones" fans are actually just hardcore UFC hype fans, Dana could say cowshite tastes like strawberrys and they'd be found dead with their head buried in a pile of it.

Huh? Seriously, what has Aspinall accomplished? He's a good HW (which is rare) but he has a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG road ahead before he is remotely close to what Miocic/Cain/DC/JDS and others have done in the HW division. Jones is an idiot but obviously the LHW GOAT, thinking that he is scared of Aspinall or that it's a tough fight for Jones indicates you are, indeed, a nuthugger.

i didnt know i wasnt allowed to change topics. i thought thats how language worked - when you finish one thought, move onto another. maybe you should try it sometime.

theyre two separate thoughts. do you understand that or do you need to take the crayons out of your nose first?

(Hint we've already talked about it).
