Meh
If he destroys Stipe, which I think he will and retires after he'll be fine
Yes there'll be quite a lot of people who know the context behind these matches, but in a few years from now most casuals will just see it as another Jones win
Like it sucks, but it's the same with Floyd's resume for example. As long as he gets the wins and stays undefeated, people will forget the details
The iffy matchmaking is shitty, don't get me wrong and Aspinall is royally getting fucked, but fans are very forgetful unfortunately
Nah, people really underestimate that these days shit will live way longer on the internet, especially things that have to do with the most prominent and controversial figures of the sport. And as Tom will continue on fighting it will keep being mentioned, especially if he keeps winning he will always be referred to as the guy Jon did his hardest to duck. Every YTer through which a lot of casuals will get informed will bring it up once in a while. I wouldn't be surprised if the UFC used it to market Tom, once Jon is finally gone. All the Jon is the GOAT talk from Dana will flip so quickly once they don't have use of him anymore.
Even in old boxing documentaries they often still tell what the narrative was going into fights and that's sometimes about 100+ years ago.
And let's not forget the MMA community is largely about what have you done for me lately and you're only as good as your last fight. Ending it in this way is not a smart plan if you really care about your legacy.
