i think the sheer disrespect of the interim champ Tom by Jones is pretty immature. claiming he's "done nothing". except he's the interim champ and the #1 contender. finding all of these weaselly excuses not to fight the guy. Jones did less to earn his title shot at LHW. its very hypocritical.

if Stipe wins, he's said he'll fight Tom. no ifs ands or buts. it just shows you how Stipe is a different caliber fighter and indeed a different caliber human than Jones is. which is why he's liked a lot more, i bet.

It's much weirder how his haters treat him to be honest.

Im pretty neutral towards Jon Jones but to pretend that Jones is ducking Aspinall takes a lot of gall. Honestly, It's simply not true. It's not a fight that has ever been offered to either jones or aspinall. This is meant to be jones retirement fight, a fight that was created before aspinall was ever in the title picture. No matter what happens with jones, MMA fans never treat him fairly.

Jones has never ducked anyone in his entire career. EVER. not Aspinall, Not Ngannou, No one. Jones Only obligation is to fight Stipe. A fight he agreed to before Tom was ever interim champ. Not sure what the problem is honestly.

and why should we treat him fairly? he's popped for PEDs, lost his title because of it, and has eye poked various opponents and then admitted he did so. thats scummy behavior, no matter which way you slice it. dude has done a lot of things but being fair is not one of them.

like it or not, his legacy will always be tainted by his behavior. im not gonna claim that he's trash or try to discredit what he's done because thats completely illogical and immature. Jones has had an excellent career and is an excellent fighter, one of the best to do it. but that doesnt mean his legacy won't always have asterisks next to it. the fiasco with Tom is just another asterisk.

I haven't been following UFC enough recently to get into this adjacent drama, but I cannot for the life of me understand this Aspinall ducking narrative.

Aspinall may be a great heavyweight and he may be a tough match for Jones, but it is definitely not a foregone conclusion. I personally have not seen enough from him generally, without bringing Jon Jones into the conversation.

Why is everyone acting like Aspinall is the real deal (I understand why Aspinall acts that way, it's what he needs to do to promote himself and it is what he needs to believe to be able to push himself)?

Imo, but for being a backup for this fight, Aspinall should be looking for a fight to further demonstrate that he IS a great heavyweight and that he would be a tough match up for Jones. That matchup is Ciryl Gane, if he beats Volkov (I believe he does). Best case scenerio, Aspinall starches him within 2 minutes and shows that whatever Jon can do he can do better.

Then he will start being a definitevely great heavyweight (no one left to challenge), and there is a thread to jones (greatness + comparative performances with shared opponents). That timeline may even give Jones, who is long in the tooth, enough prep (read: cycles) to meet him in the cage end of 2025.

there's an interim champion right now because of the fight delay. which im not mad at Jones for - he got hurt. it could happen to anyone. i know Jones would've fought Stipe already if he had not been injured.

but once the Stipe fight happens, and if Jones wins, who's the next top contender for the undisputed title? Tom, the interim champ.

Jones has literally stated that he wont fight Tom. i dont understand why. could it be mind games from Jones? absolutely, he's known to do this. but i cant predict the future, so as of right now Jones said that he will not fight Tom. i cant really see how one could interpret that any other way than ducking.

id love to be proven wrong. if Jones beats Stipe and calls out Tom, i will absolutely be thrilled that i was wrong. Stipe already said he'd fight Tom if he wins so i'd be excited for that fight too.

i just want the HW division to keep moving along. Ngannou leaving really threw a wrench into everything.
