Social ICE/deportation protests and riots megathread

I just told you. June 7th, the cops were still being attacked and outnumbered. The National Guard were called that night and they came on the 8th.

I'm not looking up individual riot clips for you.

You can read the timeline of events on the WIkipage.

The National Guard was not called in because LAPD was out numbered. The LAPD had nothing to do with the NG being called, it was directly ordered from Trump, who has/had no idea what the situation was on the ground. You refuse to post clips because none exist.

I’ll grant it is always possible but unlike you, I tend to believe that most cops do their job honorably and ngo is not above making up a story
If that's true why take him at his word?

You can clearly see the looters are African American, not "illegals" Did you even watch the clip?

Yep, and they're wearing masks & hoods.

Can you tell the race of suspects by the way they run?

To me, they're running like basketball players so you may be right.

Hmmmmm? Interesting names here

Why not defer to state and local officials as is the norm? IIRC the last time the National Guard was nationalized by the president was in the 60s, seems like a pretty drastic move.

Further, perhaps ICE and DHS officials driving around in unmarked vans and grabbing people in plain clothes is partly to blame for the unrest. Why enforce the law in such a provocative and fear inducing manner? Don't you see how that approach helped spark the unrest?

Oh fuck me... You think Gavin will do anything? lol

Karen Bass barely responded

These fucks are all in on protecting illegal immigrants. 1 in 4 people in California were born in another country.... it's a major voting block for Democrats

These asshats in California are oppurtunists and don't give a fuck about illegals

See? These looters are robbing iphones to support illegal immigrants

Most of the country is onboard...

What a fucking shithole LA has become... Run by inept wannabe communists

Deploying the National Guard was excessive and a complete abuse of power and resources. The governor of California has stated he did not request it nor was he even consulted. This is purely a political power move by Trump with the objective of escalation. This is the same president that cut federal aid for disaster relief to the states and said "tough luck, you're on your own." You think this guy actually gives a shit about California? He didn't give a shit about Capital staffers' safety during the insurrection.

I don’t but the clip was amusing and I am going under the assumption that law enforcement generally is good
You see a video of an officer shoot a man whose standing doing nothing threatening and assume the officer is good?

Trump has already violated court orders in his mass deportation efforts and cynically involved the Alien Enemies Act before the courts blocked that, I wouldn't assume they're acting lawfully
but you have no proof these ICE agents aren't acting lawfully, right?
You don't see how Feds in pain clothes throwing people into unmarked vans might be heavy handed in a way that provokes a reaction?
"Getting provoked" is not a lawful response neither a lawful defense.

I'm not denying protesters escalated but state and local officials did not ask for the guard, Trump is imposing or on them.

That's irrelevant. Protesters were not only attacking cops, but also federal agents and trying to stop them. The National Guard were mostly seen outside federal buildings. It is completely within Trump's right to call the National Guard to protect federal officers and federal buildings.

Okay but why not give state and local officials time to handle it on their own?

Because the protesters were attacking federal officers, surrounding federal buildings, etc.

Trump has already violated court orders in his mass deportation efforts and cynically involved the Alien Enemies Act before the courts blocked that, I wouldn't assume they're acting lawfully

But you have zero idea if they were acting unlawfully in these LA raids. Neither did the protesters.

They just wanted to stop ALL detentions whether they were lawful or not.

You don't see how Feds in pain clothes throwing people into unmarked vans might be heavy handed in a way that provokes a reaction?

Since when do any arresting officer in any city have some obligation to say what they're doing to some random person on the street with a cellphone camera demanding who they're arresting?

No but I'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt given their recent teack record.
"Getting provoked" is not a lawful response neither a lawful defense.
Not saying it is but I am saying the Trump regimes enforcement is needlessly cruel, far inducing, and provocative.

No but I'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt given their recent teack record.
They have a lawful mandate to operate.
Not saying it is but I am saying the Trump regimes enforcement is needlessly cruel, far inducing, and provocative.
Again, neither of these represent a validation for violence.

That video mentions nothing about helping ICE. This video is also from 2 days ago, when the protest first started. You realize nothing at all happened last night, and these "riots" are basically done? What was even the point of this post? lol

lol...yawn

LA is a garbage shithole... And LAPD is hamstrung by the morons running the city. Who are more worried about their voting base.

He's within his right but it's an abnormal move that hasn't been done in decades and is worth scrutinizing.
Because the protesters were attacking federal officers, surrounding federal buildings, etc.
Why not confer with the governor beforehand though?

Sure but I'm not going to give ICE and DHS the benefit of the doubt given their recent track record.
Since when do any arresting officer in any city have some obligation to say what they're doing to some random person on the street with a cellphone camera demanding who they're arresting?
If you're going to enforce the law in a deliberately cruel and opaque manner don't be surprised if it provoked a backlash.

Instead of de-escalating Trump is doubling down and seemingly laying the ground work for invoking the Insurrection Act.

The National Guard was called in to protect Federal agents, buildings and functions from interference by protesters.

Deploying the National Guard was excessive and a complete abuse of power and resources. The governor of California has stated he did not request it nor was he even consulted. This is purely a political power move by Trump with the objective of escalation. This is the same president that cut federal aid for disaster relief to the states and said "tough luck, you're on your own." (Wikipedia can be edited by anyone anytime by the way).

Not a complete abuse of power at all. Here's Georgetown law professor, Stephen I. Vladeck, analyzing the National Guard being called. They can be used to protect Federal officers doing their job. ICE are federal officers.

Why not confer with the governor beforehand though?

Because Newsome is a scumbag and can't be trusted. He actually wants these conflicts to happen so he can "condemn" Trump and score political points. Look at his performative tweets he's been doing.

He wants to be President.

Sure but I'm not going to give ICE and DHS the benefit of the doubt given their recent track record.

If you're going to enforce the law in a deliberately cruel and opaque manner don't be surprised if it provoked a backlash.

Don't give a fuck. You're not allowed to be dropping large cinder blocks at moving cars from a bridge and throw rocks at people's heads. That could easily kill people.

And literally any detention of an illegal immigrant would be perceived as "cruel" by these protesters. Let's be real - they want literally no one deported.

Instead of de-escalating Trump is doubling down and seemingly laying the ground work for invoking the Insurrection Act.

Don't get violent. Pretty simple. All the protesters were way more aggressive than the cops in most of the videos.

They've also operated unlawfully under the Trump regime and shouldn't be given the benefit of the doubt.

No but I would hope that Feds would try to deescalate rather than throw fuel on the fire like Trump is doing.

If only there was some way they could avoid this

The Federal Agents are being used excessively too. Hence the protests.
