Economy Trump proposes 100% tariff on BRICS nations if they try to create rival currency

I mean Trump has made it obvious from the start that he loved tariffs. His band of useful idiot supporters weren't catfished here, they just didn't know what tariffs are.
So then are you against tariffs? Based on Trump's first term he seems to do a good job managing tariffs. Or do you disagree?

He shouldn't have said anything. All it does is bring attention to something that the majority of the world didn't know about and gives motivation to leaders that don't enjoy being treated like children.

That would be the US-centric viewpoint. Most people in the US and many in Western nations don't know about BRICS or only have a very surface level view from some 5 minute video they watched on youtube, but BRICS is already quite well known outside of the Western sphere. Things have been on the backburner and progressing at a glacial pace for a long time, but talks, treaties, and most importantly actions have picked up drastically since the start of the Russo-Ukrainian war.

I doubt they create a currency regardless but it was silly to put a spotlight on it.

The goal of BRICS isn't to create a currency per se, rather, it's about finding a way for member nations to trade amongst themselves without using the USD and thus allowing Western financial institutions to skim a cut from every transaction. BRICS allows member nations to use their own currencies for trade and cut the Western financials out of the loop which means they get to keep their money out of our hands so that we can't steal it for free. There are plans to create a centralized exchange of some sort in the future based on a basket of currencies & commodities so that member nations with more volatile currencies don't get wrecked by big swings in exchange rates, but that's still a long ways off and by that time the US will likely have done a pretty good job of trashing its own dollar.

I was pretty clearly referring to BRICS creating a currency, not that it exists. The name is somewhat known but not that many people care, even outside of the West.

Here is a poll where one third of all respondents had never even heard of BRICS. Of course, a higher percentage in the West have never heard of it but there are still quite a few people outside of the West that haven't heard of it either.

Yes, I know what BRICS is. No one claimed the goal was only to create a currency.

Tariffs are fine if they are done methodically with certain rival countries or products. But when you apply them literally everywhere as Trump is saying that he will, you just trigger inflation because the exporters will jack up their prices in response to the tariffs cockblocking them to maintain their profit. It’s not very complex to understand.

Trump is already running the world and he's not back in office yet. Meanwhile the current president is committing corruption and the VP is in Hawaii coked up.
