The Jon Jones hate is so strong that people disregard logic about the way Aspinall looked in the fight before the eye poke

Gane and Poatan are very different fighters though. Poatan can dish out more damage but he also cant avoid it anywhere near as effectively as Gane can. Its also possible that Tom wouldnt have been willing to stand and strike with Poatan (as hes already said himself) because of Poatans power, so would have gone to a grappling heavy gameplan from the outset.
Yeah its a pretty stupid argument.

"After what we saw"

What did we see? 4 minutes of a technical standup battle with very little between them. Certain retards will continue to claim Gane was dominating, but any knowledgeable fan who goes back and watches it properly will see it was anything but a dominating round for either fighter.

Tom's panic takedown on Gane looked so ineffective and weak. Gane just shrugged him off and Gane has terrible TDD. There's no way he gets Alex down and I doubt he can finish him there. Very very overrated fighter is Tom

I wouldnt exactly classify that as a "panic" takedown. It was half commitment and the only takedown he attempted in the whole round.

if only Jon didn't massacred Gane in the first round and make him look like a bum...
Jon obviously made a mistake not taking the fight, because it's obvious now that he's the best ever and he could have wipped his ass with Aspinall's mouth
If Jon had beaten Tom, people would have just moved on to the next guy like how they did with Sergei.

Only one because he knew he couldn't take him down. You're like those wrestling fans cope who pretend he would have won had he just wrestled more. Newsflash Einstein, he couldn't and was never in range for one. Gane's footwork and jab was giving Tom fits. Had that fight continued the way it was going Tom was getting stopped or his face jabbed off for 5 rounds

Guess we'll find out in the rematch {<shrug}

That’s MMA for you. You go from this unstoppable juggernaut to overrated in about 5 minutes. Which is why Jones largely didn’t want to take this risk. Everybody knows if Jones beat Tom easily, Jones gets virtually no credit from the haters for the win. Tom is just disregarded.

I mean Tom has been out for 2 years while Jonny boy wanted a easy win against stipe.

Ring rust is a thing.
Jones was out forever when he fought Gane and made him look like an amateur.

This was the pressure on Tom going into this fight. Because it’s a dangerous common opponent that Jones humiliated and destroyed.

Hating Jon is fine on principle, but so many people are massively dishonest about it. But when logic and critical thinking go out the window due to 15+ years of seethe and cope, what should I expect?

I dont hate Jon at all, I think hes the GOAT all things considered, but he isnt infallible, and the drama hes created with the HW division is a serious pain in the ass. If he had taken the Tom fight we would have gotten a big fight and he would have either gone out on his shield as an aging legend and passed the torch to a new star, or he would have won and solidified his legacy even further.

What we got instead is this absolute shitshow where you have two guys fighting for the belt and most peoples opinions on either of them whether positive or negative are dictated by their feelings towards Jon avoiding one but steamrolling the other. It has forever clouded the narrative on this era of HW and made things way more obnoxious and tribalistic than they would have been otherwise.

"something something cheater... something beating his woman..."
It's always the same infantile bullshit lmao

So you pretty much just had that a random thought in your head and decided to throw it out there without context. Good for you I guess.

you can "hate" Jon (or just think that an athlete with his number of violations isn't an all time great candidate) and think that Tom lost the first round yesterday: they're not mutually exlusive.

It's like saying that the richest man in the world isn't a candidate for the richest because he was caught not paying his taxes a couple of times.

I still think that Aspinall was too much of a gamble for Jones for not a established name.... And it kind of proved it yesterday.

Also, people started writing Gane off after the demolition from Jones, but dude was never crap, and he showed it again tonight.

Smart of Aspinall for not continuing, he needs both eyes fully functioning for this fight

absolutely nonsensical example.
it's more like saying that the most financiary succesful man in the world isn't candidate for being the best at earning money because he was caught stealing them.

all things considered tom got what he deserved. jones hate is so strong its fun to always take the counter point and you quickly see its not jones hate its just racism.
Dude, I'm a black guy - don't like him. A ton of the hate is based on Daniel Cormier and the way that played out.

Some of the hate is for sure racism, because it always is, but don't pretend. Jones brings A LOT of the hate by quality of his character.

This is one of the reasons he didn’t want to fight Tom. Like anybody was gonna give him credit for the victory.

I’m just using the same talking points that Aspinall fans were using before the fight. Ganes the most overrated fighter in the division. He got taken down by a mediocre striker in Volkov. He got dropped by the guy who sells DVDs outside of Walmart in Tuivasa. Jones who is no good either submitted him in one round. He got taken down at will by one legged Ngannou. And Tom is like the king of everything. So in reality, Aspinall should have no problem doing anything he wants to him.
