Throwback Rate Aspinall's Power /10

7\10 for HW. Ngannou is 10. I think he is on level of prime Stipe.

I'm all for the fight as a Jones fan. If he has to "prove" himself against modern HW #1 (which I honestly think Gane counted as much as it's discredited here), just think Aspinall has recently got a reputation as this power puncher with his wins over Blaydes and Pav.

HW is so damn thin right now. I'm just saying if Jones cuts through Aspinall people will go back to narrative of "worst HW era of all time". The top guys in the weight class are sort of unproven, even Aspinall.
It's a terrible time for hw I don't disagree at all. OTOH though, Tom has wins over half of the top ten. And they are decisive, dominant wins. From the perspective of being the best contender possible in this era of HW, well I don't really see what else Tom can possibly do.

He's already murdered half the top ten and many aren't impressed, so he's rightfully calling for the champ. You can't really ask him to do any more to prove he deserves it. It's not like crushing a couple more top ten hws is going to impress anyone enough to make the difference.

If he defended against Gane there wouldn't be any legit HWs left really. But that is also part of the problem, anyone of them can beat 2 of the top guys in a row and be the next Aspinall, so their resume is thin for it be a top win on Jones record. Which is why they probably had to do Stipe fight to even have someone decorated.

The only real names on Aspinall's record is Blaydes, Pavlovich, and Volov. So Aspinall isn't truly proven and could lose all his future fights. Maybe his knees get bad in training one day and everyone will just treat Aspinall like they did with Pavlovich or Gane.

Power 9,5/10, Speed 10/10 (fastest hands ever for a HW)

Yeah people love to devalue wins after the fact, but Tom is so far ahead of the rest of the pack it's like who else would he fight at hw? If he doesn't wanna fight Tom he should drop the belt. Let the man be undisputed champ and stop holding the belt hostage.

the Arlovski fight was early in his career. he developed his striking a lot since then. i was very critical of his striking defense in that fight because Arlovski was touching him with the right a lot in that fight. it's just he's a big young healthy man so he was able to just eat them, but it was a worrying sign. he completely revamped his striking defense and added a lot of head movement and footwork and it really paid off since then. the Tom that fought Arlovski would've been eating bombs over and over from Pavlovich, but he slipped a good amount of punches in the Pavlovich fight and obviously Pavlovich has a much better grasp on timing and has huge power, size, and speed compared to old Arlovski.
yeah his footwork and movement improved since the arlovski fight, but one thing that was concerning in that fight was how tom seemed to gas out late in round 1. He was breathing heavily and his output dropped with his defense getting lazy. Tom hasn't had a fight go past 2-3 minutes since the arlovski fight so I wonder if his cardio is still suspicious

Stipe 7/10 power
Aspinall 8/10 power
Pereira 9/10 power
Ngannou/Lewis 10/10 power

That is a legit question for every front-runner.

Chin + guts in a real dogfight always = another.

Right now, Tom Aspinall is nothing but a hot prospect in a sea of fat, mediocre, sub-elite competition.

Anyone who tries to call him "great" (or anything close to that) is a newbie or an idiot.

Jon Jones is a fierce, elite competitor ... who may not be a KO artist, but who has "analyzed and solved" every PROBLEM in front of him ... and who is ALWAYS the man finishing strong at the end, asserting his dominance, and either finishing in the end ... or having his opponent on the run in the end.

That's what Champions DO — solve the problem in front of them, and put pressure on that ass to break them. Every time.

Aspinall may be too young, and too big — but I'm not so sure that.

In a battle of guts and heart, I would choose Jon Jones over Tom Aspinall, any and every day.

Nobody said he was fast until Joe Rogan said it, now the parrots are working overtime. His punches are so sloppy.

They both had a lot of hype before the fight. Aspinall finishing him as quickly as he did rightfully got him even more hype. Pavlovichs loss to Volkov (who Aspinall finished quickly) also gave more credit to the idea that he's a level above the rest of the competition. Especially given that Gane had a competitive decision win vs Volkov.

He definitely stands out as the #1 UFC HW over the last couple of years.

Obviously he doesn't have Ngannou-power, but he has other attributes that arguably make him as dangerous or even more dangerous.

That's why Jones vs Aspinall would be such an exciting fight!
I was gobsmacked at the time a large proportion of this forum thought Pav would make quick work of Tom rather than the other way around, and said so at the time

It was clear as day to me

Pav had a power punchers chance sure
Tom had skill, speed, movement, athleticism, grappling and a power punchers chance

"Just think a fighter has recently got a reputation as a power puncher after his power puncher victories"

Yes. That's typically how that happens.

In other news, water is wet.

Also, your second point is terrible

"Go back to"?

It's the bs narrative being used to discredit Tom and excuse Jon from not doing what any legit champ should

This worst era shit is all over the forum constantly now
