The Ank Poatan rematch may be a terrible career move for Poatan

We have seen this scenario play out and someone else fill in the names. Dominant striker with no wrestling fights timidly to avoid the TD and looks beatable. Ank doesn’t have to change a thing. Poatan has to fight with no fear of TD. Which btw means he is likely getting taken down. He has zero experience getting up from a TD in a fight with an elite fighter trying to zap his energy. If he gets taken down it likely will validate everyone saying he was unfairly fast tracked. Poatan has a very low chance at his age of reinventing himself. As much as I will enjoy the fight if he can’t KO Ank it will inly result in a trilogy on an older Poatan.

This is almost the same as when he lost to Izzy. The only difference he won the first fight. Nobody held on to the loss and judged him because HE MOVED UP. Even if he beats Ank and gets the belt back, unless a dominating performance we have likely seen the best he has to offer. If the end goal was to make Poatan a LHW legend im then this fight makes total sense. If his goal is avenge all losses then he should have had a trilogy with Izzy before moving up. The fact is there are a multitude of strikers with no wrestling at HW. As much as the fans would love the rematch there just isn’t anything worth a damn for Poatan at LHW even if he wins narrowly. I just don’t see why beating up some HW strikers wouldn’t be a far better move. Two losses to Ank may be the absolute worst move for him

No. Losing in the first place was a terrible career move. If he wins the rematch, which is quite possible, he is practically guaranteed 2 more big fights: complete the trilogy, and / or move up. Legacy-wise, getting at least 1 win over Ank helps a lot. If he loses the Ank rematch, he can still move up and take a few winnable fights vs someone like Gane etc. If he moves up now and loses, he’s basically spent in 3 weight classes. The wise career move is to rematch Ank, and work hard to win.

He prepared for this fight like he did every other match up. He fought the same way and did not have an answer for Ank.

The two guys who bested him did not allow him to set his pace and rhythm which is imperative for timing those ko shots whether left hook or head kick. He requires a kickboxing pace and Ank doesn’t play that game and neutralized the very thing he is dependent on.

Alex is screwed if he does or doesn’t. Should he decide to bring the heat on Ank is a counterpuncher and will have him on Queer Street again with that overhand left.

I think Ank wins by an even greater margin by mixing it up further and always having Poatan guessing.

Poatan is 38 and knows he's in the tail end of his career, hence his activity. Fighting more often means more money coming in. How is him getting another shot at a title where if he wins (not unlikely), his earnings at least doubling a bad move?

If he moves up to Heavyweight he isn't getting an instant title shot, and he will be fighting guys that are more dangerous than Ankalaev simply because they're bigger. Pereira is walking around at about 220 if I'm not mistaken, so he will be fighting guys that will have like 20-45 lbs on him.

Ank hurt Poatan badly. That’s what won this fight. Alex didn’t wanna get knocked out, and for that reason did not come forward.
