No one ducked no one

I think everyone wanted the fight, UFC, Jones, and Ngannou. It was just UFC-Ngannou negotiations. UFC wasn't going to let the UFC HW Champ fight Jones, then move to boxing and PFL after he KO's their GOAT. They gave him Gane instead because they were willing to risk that and it could potentially weaken Ngannou's negotiating power. Ngannou knew there was easy money in boxing, so he didn't want to be locked in the UFC contract, the UFC stopped at a 3 fight contract.

No one is really to blame except Conor McGregor for the MMA/Boxing crossover matches that got fans to eat it up. Maybe also boxing for providing purses that don't even make a profit for events any more.

Jon retired for 3 yrs when Ngannou was the champ and coincidently came back when Ngannou left. Also refused/refuses to fight the interim champ and selected to fight a retire guy that got KO’ed in his last fight 4 yrs ago.

Bones is the biggest duck in UFC history!
He selected, but no one there thought it was a BS match. They wanted to see JJ vs Sergei Pavlovich, Sergei was even the back up fighter. Even Sergei himself said nothing about how he should be the one to fight Jon Jones. Even though Stipe wasn't ranked, it was due to him not being active ever since he lost to Ngannou, not because of losses. When he lost, he was #2 after Gane.

Ppl only started talking about how nonsensical the fight was when JJ said that would be his last fight. Then they triggered the "ohh so if he wins it's all over!!" ...

Imagine Jones saying "you guys want to beat me Sergei Pavlovich"?? So Sergei, I want you really bad!! Most ppl there didn't know what a Sergei or what a Pavlovich was.

If there was resistance, ppl wouldn't cheer up a lot when JJ called Miocic... They recognized that without Ngannou there, that was the biggest fight. They didn't know much about Aspinall.

When he dominated the LHW division, he vacated the belt. He was thinking in fighting, but he didn't need to fight. He knew the position he was in came from going up to a class while having won 27 fights and no losses in LHW. Ngannou wasn't a need, it was choice JJ entertained but he wasn't holding up the HW division.

Now, JJ made it clear he wanted to retire. But if the UFC and Tom want the fight to the point of waiting more, like, until end of this year, they will. Aspinall after defeating Blaydes, even said "if it's Jon Jones, I can wait 1 year for him no problem".
