Khamzat is a monster but weight classes exist (...) vs Pereira

Bruno Silva was able to take Pereira down at middleweight and he's nowhere near the grappler that Khamzat is. Izzy landed takedowns as well. If they fought at middleweight I think Khamzat would wipe the floor with him. Not sure what would happen at LHW, size does matter to some extent but not sure how much the size would make a difference. Pereira still has yet to prove himself against an elite grappler, at either weight class. His greatest grappling performance is nearly getting choked out by Jan and getting a split decision at elevation after Jan gassed.

Ankalaev is on a 13 fight winning streak and ranked #2 at LHW.

UFC is prone to some stupid matchmaking, but bringing up Chimaev to fight Poatan would be the winner in that category.
im sure you meant a 2 fight winning streak. but what evs.

Khamzat will not have trouble taking Pereira down. The only question is can he finish him before he tires out. Because if he tires out, Pereira will probably win.

I'd love to see it anyway. It's an intriguing fight.
Pretty much this, while both are fresh, Alex will go down for sure. What happens then, hard to know, will he rebound quickly up, he must be careful to protect his neck, that is Khamzat best chance of winning.

I could see Alex surviving and later on defending takedowns and forcing Khamzat to fight standing up . He probably worked more on TDD and submission defense since Blahovic fight.

Alex is about 15-20lb heavier, strength should help him survive submission attacks. At 185 I would give Khamzat more chance, at 205 Alex.

Pure grappler beats per striker nearly every time.

Khamzat’s grappling advantage is so big, you’d have to favour him. Although in this case he won’t be able to outmuscle perreira.

That's exactly why they would do it. they have no super fights.

Poatan is old

MW belt is tied up and khamzat wants to stay active let it happen.
Its non sens in my opinion. Why would they waste potential "beef" between Jiri and Khamzat when this fight was on line. Khamzat refused to accept it or comment on it. Also stopped to talk smack about Jiri from moment Jiri called him out... :D

There is no reason to give Khamzat title shot in LHW...and if so he will get slept - 100%

Let's add a little more variety.

6 selected UFC fighters and 2 outsiders from another MMA org, kickboxing, TV, or whatever.

Usman is one of the best wrestlers in UFC history
Gilbert is a BJJ world champ
problem is they think pereira is a world champ in grappling too
thats what they wanna tell you lol

MMA is just that simple, huh? The guy who had some close fights at WW and MW (Usman on 10 days notice) will just run through the LHW champion.
He had closes fights against grapplers and before he even started training with Saitiev.
Holland has better grappling than Pereira and he got destroyed in a round.

People seem to think Khamzat has as bad of a gas tank as Conor, yet his best wins are by decision. It's strange how people think he gasses after the 1st round and stands there like a punching bag the rest of the fight. You can watch his long grappling sessions or even watch Burns fight where he throws haymakers for 3 rounds, with the biggest output in last round. Not only that, he could do what he did to Whittaker for 5 rounds easy.

If Alex was able to survive underneath him like Usman did, he would knock Kham out in the third or fourth round. Usman, being a wrestler, also was not a specialist in the guard and avoiding subs. Alex will obviously be training for someone taking him down and is bigger and stronger than Usman.

Except they aren't pure grappler or pure striker, they are cross trained. As such, there is no inherent advantage to being a grappler. The early UFCs were truly pure styles, and yes, grapplers won almost every time. But more recently, grappling domination is pretty much easily disproven with all of the champs and top guys that mostly strike; cross training totally changed that balance. The tide turned and started to even out after Mo Smith beat up Coleman at UFC 14.

No reason to be certain Alex couldn't survive the initial onslaught and knock him out. Kham would be way too tired to survive for 5 rounds if he couldn't finish him early.

Alex isn't going to be able to defend the takedown. Khamzat has a huge speed advantage over Alex.

It's ok because this fight isn't happening just because some sourceless rumor tweet said so.

He was Alex Gustafsson's training partner for years, so he's got a pretty good feel for LHWs

Imo in his entire mma journey Alex hasnt face a quarter of the submission threat Khamzat presents i honestly think its a quick takedown and submission either some arm trianle choke or RNC. Khamzat is a NATIONAL CHAMPION way beyond even the best grappler Alex has faced in his life
