War Wagon DDP is simply too strong to be overpowered by Khamzat

Everyone saying DDP didn't use technique is making me lol. Khamzat didn't let him use technique and didn't give him any breathing room to create openings. He waited on that kimura all night and almost got it once. Barely let his hands leave the mat. Didn't let him turn his hips in, didn't let him get two shoulders off the mat. Khamzat prevented all the techniques, plain and simple.

Let's not forget that Khamzat is actually a natural WW, and DDP is a huge MW. Khamzat just wasn't prepared to make the weight cut in the end.

DDP will simply be able to overpower Khamzat. He likely won't even have to sprawl or really actively defend much to stop him... He'll probably just dig for an under hook and throw him away. It'll be like when Cro cop fought wrestlers, or Tibau Vs Khabib, where the stronger guy was simply able to out power the grappler.

DDP is so strong he doesn't even need traditional wrestling training - he can take you down just by putting you into a headlock and falling to the ground.

The strength disadvantage will also cause Khamzat to gas quicker than usual.

The irony that TS's name is "wrestlefan"

😂😂

“What’s Merab gonna do to Sean wrestle him for 5 rounds”

“Khamzat don’t have the cardio”

“Islam has fought nobody’s, The Champ has a name Charles Oliveira via round 2 KO”

“Leon Edwards got rocked by Nate imagine what Usman will do”

“Leon has dealt with the wrestling of Usman and Colby Belal stands no chance”

Well at least these guys dare to share their opinions. It may be funny to bump these kinds of threads but without them, sherdog wouldn't be sherdog anymore.

Dricus fought in 3 different organizations. Over 30% of his wins are via submission. He has fought many wrestlers in the past. Bahati was a very accomplished wrestler/grappler (the same guy who slapped Dricus in the face off). He said he was going to submit Dricus, but Dricus submitted him in like 2 minutes. Brunson is also a very accomplished wrestler who took gold medalist Romero down in their fight. Dricus submitted him in later rounds. Dricus main challenge in that fight was his cardio issue due to his nose only providing 13% Oxygen, but he was able to survive the early storm and then submitted Brunson.

Even with Whittaker, Whittaker could not control Dricus on the ground. Dricus just popped back up in 10 seconds. However, when Dricus hip tossed Whittaker to the ground, Dricus controlled him for the rest of the round. Big difference.

Darren Till might not be a wrestler, but remember before the Dricus fight, he was all over the place bragging how he had been training with Khamzat for 2 years before the fight, but Dricus submitted him.

Then there is the fact that Dricus participates in BJJ tournaments and submits BJJ blackbelts. Granted, his size and strength are a big factor there.

Just because Dricus' fight predominantly happened on the feet, does not mean he is not an extremely high level grappler/wrestler. Add the size and strength to the fact that he has been grappling/wrestling since age 4, he won't be getting ragdolled by Khamzat. it is actually going to be a tough fight in anyone except diehard Khamzat fan's book who think Khamzat ragdolls Dricus and submits him in round 1. The recency bias from Whittaker fight, seems to have clouded people's minds. Anyone looking objectively, can see that.

He did ragdoll him, we told you, everything is in the technique.

He’s going to be the biggest and strongest guy that Chimaev has ever faced. If Chimaev isn’t able to get that sub in the first, he’s getting brutalized the rest of the fight.

Where you at buddeh???

Khazmat is not just a powerful wrestler though he is very skilled. There are a lot of videos that analyze his techniques when taking guys down, and his skill was certainly a big reason why DDP couldn't remain vertical.

Khazmat's power I think is more at play at WW, at MW it's his skill and speed. DDP's lack of technical ability bit him in the ass against Khazmat.

Picture is worth a thousand words. You can see for yourself by looking at both in the Octagon next to Whittaker. BTW, Dricus was around 220 lbs here for the Whittaker fight and is standing barefoot next to former heavyweight 230 - 240 lbs 6'2" Goddard.

The biggest difference is, Dricus has long legs and a shorter torso while Khamzat has a very long torso and short legs. Long legs are better for kickboxing while short legs give lower center of gravity, which helps in wrestling.

I was right about the size, but Khamzat made it look irrelevant . Proof is in the pudding. Contrary to my belief, Khamzat made it irrelevant. Dricus was bigger and carrying way more lean muscle mass in the ring. He was clearly the biggest he has ever been at middleweight. Almost the same height despite all of the early Khamzat fanboi drivel of camera angles (I was one of the very first person to call out the illusion created due to the camera angle). Khamzat just out-skilled him by a long margin and was able to use his wrestling to impose his game plan.

My assumption was, Dricus size and strength would be a factor in negating the advantage Khamzat had and will help him impose his will in the later rounds making it more of a striking match, but other than round 5 where Dricus out-muscled Khamzat twice, it was not the case at all. Khamzat just dominated.

This is actually a complement. It actually speaks more to Khamzat's accomplishment that he made Dricus' size and strength irrelevant to his strategy.

Dricus also has a very high center of gravity with a large upper body and long legs, which also helps Khamzat who has shorter legs and a long torso. Dillashaw is 100% correct. Dricus was not lowering himself enough to compensate for his high center of gravity standing way too tall in front of Khamzat making himself open to takedowns.

Khamzat just out-skilled him in the wrestling department using smart tactics and not letting Dricus take over especially with his striking advantage. It was not about brute strength, but deploying more effective technques. He was always two steps ahead of where Dricus was going as he himself said.
