News "Black Lesnar" Gable Steveson no longer UFC- Bound

I get the feeling that after all the hype when he does inevitably show up in MMA hes going to be totally underwhelming. Wrestling is not the path to success in MMA that it once was.
Possibly

He's an athletic freak though and seems more of a killer than a guy like Bo Nickal or Ed Ruth.

But we've never seen him get punch in the face yet

Stephen Neal was wrestler turned football player and had a good career he also played the the New England Patriots with Tom Brady.

I feel like it's still the path at heavyweight. His level of speed is very very elite and he doesn't require a clinch or tie up to get his takedowns like a majority of other good wrestling heavyweights rosholt/mocco.

The fact he can get takedowns from space and it's more difficult for heavyweights to get back up to their feet, it's very easy to see a path for his success. I get there is Bo Nickal but out, but I agree with the more athletic but less tough DC comparison way more than anything like Lesnar.

Honestly I probably liked Ruth the most of the three as a prospect his body type reminded me so much of Jon Jones with wrestling to go with it. So you never know until you know. I like Gable a lot more than Bo though, plus heavyweight is a way easier hill to climb to the top of in terms of weight classes.

After he gets cut, UFC could still be in the mix. I mean, I hope the NFL works out for him but it’s not likely.

Great guy great wrestler great athlete but from what I've seen he's not going to be successful as an MMA fighter

Yea, let's see if he gets cut quickly. I'll be surprised if he manages to have a good NFL career.

Might as well pursue the dream and a massive paycheck when he is in his physical prime. I'm very sure that both UFC and pro-wrestling will be there if it doesn't work out.

I dont feel like Gable is going to do so great when he starts getting punched in the face. Some people you can see just dont have it and I dont think he does. Being a hell of a wrestler does nothing to prep you for getting punched in the face.

If he signs with the UFC, it is because he was totally out of other options and Dana was willing to cough up a decent amount of money. He will never go to the UFC if those other 2 factors aren't in play, which makes it exceedingly unlikely to happen.

He doesn't seem to be willing to dedicate himself to anything though, which is why he's flunked out of every big opportunity he's had since wrestling. Maybe he's got what it takes athletically, but mentally? Don't think so, and that's a bad thing to lack in a division where one punch can end your night.
Honestly I probably liked Ruth the most of the three as a prospect his body type reminded me so much of Jon Jones with wrestling to go with it. So you never know until you know. It's easier but it's also the place where a puncher's chance goes up exponentially. Unless Gable were to add a deadly submission game or crushing GnP (which judging by his striking footage it's out of the question) he's going to have to really work on his conditioning lest he turns into a sitting duck in the third round.

Wrestlers getting KO'd in the regional circuit is not a rare sight, a decade ago that's how Black Beast got spotted when he slept Rosholt. Obviously Gable is the most talented and decorated wrestler that could make the jump, but it doesn't change the underlying dynamic that if you're a wet blanket you will never be out of the woods until the fight ends.

I'll believe he's got what it takes when he stops fucking around and gets serious with anything.

Fucking hell, Mocco. There's a flashback, now. I remember being so underwhelmed on the couple of occasions I saw Mocco in MMA.

Steveson will never fight MMA, I guarantee it. He actually seems to want to do anything but MMA.

Could be right. But from a career standpoint it really probably should be ones last resort. And he is quickly exhausting all avenues aside from wrestling coaching which he doesn't seem very interested in either.
