Why was GSP allowed to pick his own opponent(Nick Diaz) but not Jones?

Hendricks was on a hot streak, forced to fight another dangerous top guy in Condit when he already deserved the match. GSP picked Diaz who was coming off a loss and arguably an easier stylistic matchup... he got little heat for it.

Jones wants to face Cormier who is undefeated and deserves the shot unquestionably. Gus lost to Jones 2 fights ago and then beat some guy ranked around #15 for christ sakes and now everyone feels he deserves a rematch because he is the Great White Hope at LHW.

Clearly a shertard double standard, probably because GSP is white and Jones is black. The UFC only wants to book the most profitable fights which is why the pushed for GSP/Diaz>GSP/Hendrics and now want Jones/GusII>Jones/Cormier and it seems fickle fans buy into the UFC propaganda rather easily.

Someone actually bought the "angry GSP and his dark side" line ? It was just a way to get back on track a formerly scheduled fight before risking seeing Diaz lose again and killing the fight's marketability. There was nothing personal in that title fight and the UFC never did GSP a favor : it was what the UFC wanted from the beginning.

Anyone not seeing the difference with Jones is blind.

He wiped out the division and Diaz was the last choice. Who else does he fight Spider? :icon_chee

He fights Hendricks...

The most obvious answer is because Jones already got to pick his opponent. He convinced the UFC to go with Glover over a Gus rematch, remember?

This didn't happen. Glover was promised a title shot after he beat Bader and they weren't going to take it away from him

GSP didn't make a career out of beating up lightweights and ducking guys who gave him a good fight. A don't say BJ was a LW. BJ is BJ.

GSP did make a career of beating lightweights. Namely BJ penn, who is now a FW :icon_lol:. He also got knocked out by a 5'6'' midget :icon_lol:.

Nick Diaz- was on a great streak in strikeforce
Cormier- Great streak in strikeforce

Nick Diaz lost a fight, got suspended and still was able to fight GSP ahead of Hendrix!! Who had won 5 straight. Dana White sided with GSP.

How are these situations not similar?
It really doesnt matter though, cause this board has Sherly gone to the dogs.

GSp did one time in his career, it was something UFC did for him for his years of being the best and dominance and also a company man

It was also the biggest fight the UFC could make at the time the one most fans wanted to see, not me but many did

Jones has been a pain in the ass, Jones was givien one fight already didnt want gus in immediate rematch.

Gus vs Jones is the one fans want to see the most

Jones has already picked his oppenent when he preferred Glover to Gus rematch.

Why should Jones be allowed to pick his opponents 2 fights in a row, when GSP, argyably the greater champ and better ppv seller, was only allowed to pick one?

A more comparable situation would be if GSP didn't retire after his controversial decision over Hendricks, then beat a hand picked Nick Diaz, and then proceeded to shun a Hendricks rematch in favor of calling out an injured Condit

Jones asked for Glover, who havent faced a top10, if you want to compare them. Nick had just loss a controversial split decision for the interim belt and Dana has already promised Gustaf a shot for beathing Manuwa over DC who is fucking injured and need injury. That's not talking of the fact that this fight would be on sweden, guess who's from there, i'll give you a clue, not DC

Right on the money! But don't expect the Jones' fans to listen to the facts & common sense, they are just like they're favorite fighter - ignorant!:icon_chee

Diaz was a much bigger draw than Johny and had history with Georges

A lot of people thought Diaz beat Condit and deserved the interim title but either way that was a very close fight, pretty much every thread had someone saying Diaz 1 2 5 in it

Johny was the only contender but even still he had just had recent close decisions before his KO of Kampmann and it wasn't clear how good Hendricks actually was att

Heh.

The Natural Born Killer got the nod on a razor thin decision vs Diaz and got the interim belt! It was a hard fight to actually judge (a winner) 5 rd decision.
I believe GSP was motivated to fight Condit after his longest time away from the cage. But even St. Pierre knew he'd be shaking off any ring rust. I think St. Pierre and the ufc felt Condit earned and deserved that title shot against a 90-100% Georges. Only speculating.
Condit would be more respectful as a champion than Diaz too. Not that it truly matters lol
That being said Diaz GSP ppv would sell like hotcakes at a fatcamp. I saw it coming a mile away

Because Jones is avoiding Gus after getting pummeled into oblivion to the point he cried backstage.

That's being naive. The real answer is, as it almost always is:

Look at the PPV numbers for GSP-Diaz compared to GSP-Hendricks. If that doesn't explain it to you why GSP-Diaz happened first, then I suspect you're very unfamiliar with the way pro-sports works.

BTW, GSP took as much heat for postponing Hendricks as Jones is taking for postponing Gus - do a search on "GSP ducking Hendricks" if you've only started following MMA post GSP-Diaz.

It would be different if the GSP - Hendricks fight happened first. Imagine the backlash it would cause if GSP won a questionable decision over Hendricks and then called out Diaz instead of rematching Johnny?

Shertard double standards.

At least Jones is asking for an undefeated opponent unlike GSP who wanted ot fight a guy coming off a loss and drug suspension/retirement

Not for me personally, biggest issue I have with it is all the statements jones put out before the glover fight how he wanted to rematch gus so bad cause he looked at it as a blemish on his record, where lots of fans thought he lost that fight, also untop of that he kept saying how DC didn't even deserve the fight with him, now DC came out and said he may need surgery on his knee jones changed his tone on the man, and also retracted what he promised mist the fans in the gus rematch
So as it appears similar on paper, in whole context its not the same
Jones needs to stop the pre Madonna boxing type attitude and fight the number one contender in Gus, then get his fight with DC if he can get by Gus, also gives DC enough time to be fully healed for his title shot. Sometimes when things make sense that's just how they should be
