Why was GSP allowed to pick his own opponent(Nick Diaz) but not Jones?

It was disgusting when George did it and it's disgusting now. At least Cormier is a legit challenger though

That was actually a worst offense since Nick was coming off a loss, an easy match up for George and Hendricks was knocking out contenders left and right(mostly only left). And around the same time Sherdog was giving Anderson shit for taking a fight with Bonner on a month's notice for the sole purpose of salvaging an event. Never underestimate the impact of likeability to a certain demographic. With that said, Jones is also pulling some bullshit here.

George didn't hand pick his opponent. Dont you remember the whole "wolf tickets" post fight press conference? That was where Dana announced GSP would fight Nick next.

Different situation, different circumstances.

1) GSP was previously scheduled to fight Nick. Nick lost that opportunity but the bad-blood was already there. GSP wanted that fight and Dana agreed.

2) PPV buys.

3) I'm thinking GSP probably had a lot better relationship with Dana and Co. at the time so yes there was probably some favoritism thrown in.

Nick Diaz- was on a great streak in strikeforce
Cormier- Great streak in strikeforce

Nick Diaz lost a fight, got suspended and still was able to fight GSP ahead of Hendrix!! Who had won 5 straight. Dana White sided with GSP.

How are these situations not similar?
It really doesnt matter though, cause this board has Sherly gone to the dogs.

The ufc was trying to get into the business of selling wolf tickets, nick diaz was the best option, lol no but seriously the ufc is a business, Nick diaz made more business sense than Hendricks at the time because the fight was already being promoted for like 3 yrs prior to the actual fight lol, now with JJ the fight that makes the most money is the rematch because it was such a close fight and gus was the only one who beat JJ up a bit, All about the dollars and not about about the sense. < the short answer version

He wiped out the division and Diaz was the last choice. Who else does he fight Spider? :icon_chee

I don't really like Bones but Jon cleaned out his division also, besides Cormier who he is trying to fight.

GSP did get shit for it and rightfully so. He didn't get as much shit cause he wasn't trying to time it to get Diaz in there with an injury but I said it was bullshit when Georges did it and it's bullshit now with Jones.

GSP never ducked anyone, and never had to have a PPV get canceled.

Jones has made a career out of ducking, and fighting underweight guys.

Also he made Hendricks yet ANOTHER top opponent in a row.

Jones should fight someone coming off loss/injury, and make Cormier fight Gustaffson in the meanwhile. This situation would be exactly like what GSP did to Hendricks.

jones fought chael sonnen at chael first ufc fight at 205, and chael was on a losing streak .. jones fought lyoto and rua, both who were on torrid one win streaks, he fought rampage on a two fight win streak ... dana said that gsp always fought whoever was put in front of him and that was the reason he let the diaz fight go (and it was a bigger seller) ... nick had a losing streak ..now go see which other fighter gsp had with a one or two fight win streak

Actually I think I remember GSP getting some shit for that. Silva was also getting shit for bringing up opponents other than Weidman the first fight.

Basically, Sherdog will shit on you.

For one, many people did criticize the UFC and GSP for taking Diaz over Hendricks because he was coming off a loss.

Second, that scenario looked more like GSP wanting to get some more PPV buys to better his pay day while Jones looks like he's ducking Gus.

Third, champs get to choose their opponents all the time as long as the UFC okays it. Randy wanted to fight Brock even thought there was an interim champ(Big Nog) because he knew that would sell real well and of course the UFC was down for that. Same with GSP vs Diaz and GSP vs Penn and Chuck vs Rampage and plenty of other title fights. So the difference here is that the UFC sees the money in a Gus vs Jones fight but Jones isn't liking it for some reason. I don't know what games he's playing but this is not like GSP and Diaz at all.

Jones already hand picked Glover.

How many more times should he be allowed to do this?

If Jones beats Gus again and DC then Jones can start planning his course but he needs to wipe his ass with the top guys first, just as GSP did when setting that standard for dominating a division.

It's simple, GSP was suppose to run through Hendricks. Many people thought Diaz won the Condit fight. You would have an argument if GSP wouldn't rematch Hendricks.

GSP didn't make a career out of beating up lightweights and ducking guys who gave him a good fight. A don't say BJ was a LW. BJ is BJ.

GSP didn't whine about every match up he got from the UFC he just fought who they put in front of him.

Jones whines so much it gets real old real quick.
