How many ranked, top wins did Jones have when he got the lhw title shot?

The UFC did not have rankings back then, but he probably beat 1-3 guys who would have been ranked in the top 15 LHWs.

Jon Jones got his title shot because Rashad Evans got injured and they needed someone to take the fight on short notice.

So why is Umar even ranked #2? The only ranked fighter he has beaten is Sandhagen... Merab is right about Umar having not done enough to get a title shot. Sandhagen is good but that's the only ranked opponent he has fought.

I see so much talk about Merab ducking him but in reality Umar has really not done enough.

Here's the list of ranked opponents Merab beat to get his title shot...
Dodson #12, Stamman #13, Moraes #6, Aldo #3, Yan #2, Cejudo #3...

Here's Umar's list..... Sandhagen #4..... So Umar was ranked #11 despite never fighting a ranked opponent and now is #2 after beating a guy who was ranked #4... UFC is clearly pushing the shit out of him.

Ranked fighters dodging up and comers isn't a reason to hold back rising stars

The division lacks other contenders and narratives for someone to go ahead of Umar to face Merab right now

What happened to Leon, Belal, what Jon is trying to do to Tom and what is being proposed here for Umar is wrong

Not a Merab fan, think he's arguably the most boring fighter in the sport. I don't like false narratives tho and Sherdog is the #1 place for spreading false narratives. If you listened to people on here you'd think Umar has cleared out the division, dude has fought nobody aside from Sandhagen. I just want title shots to mean something.

Jones should have never gotten a title shot at Heavyweight. 90 year old Stipe who was ko'd in his previous fight and hadn't won in 4 years should not have gotten a title shot. 4 year layoff Cruz who was dominated by Garbrandt should not have gotten a title shot. #10 Steve Erceg and UFC debut Kai Asakura should not have gotten title shots. 90 year old retired Dan Henderson should not have gotten a title shot.

anymore, opponents are carefully chosen with the risk vs reward formula.

The beautiful thing about sports is that the truth cannot remain hidden, if someone is given a spot they don't deserve, they'll eventually be exposed. People cried about Islam not deserving a TS, and yet he made Oliveira look like a journeyman. If Umar really doesn't deserve it then Merab should beat him, simple as that. When Corey Sandhagen, the #2 ranked BW in the world, can barely win a round against you then you're one of the most proven contenders in the division, it's very hard to argue that you're being "pushed".
