Why are people so high on Umar

It's funny how people will breakdown Dagestani fighters and say they don't deserve shit after they've been ducked, then when they beat the top guys, people find another one to hate. It's bizarre

except for the part that "how does he keep moving up the rankings if everyone is ducking him?" i never understood that part. if everyone is ducking, how does he get fights?

This is just racisim and stupidity.

I'm not Dagi or Muslim and there's a lot of Dagi fighters I'm not a fan of, but we're talking about the best fighters in the world here on Khabib's team. Fans of MMA like them because Khabib and Islam were/are both p4p #1 fighters in the world and Umar has that potential as well.

I don't get the feeling Umar can take a punch.

Seems fragile to me.

Because 1 guy out of the top 10 steps up because behind the scenes the UFC says they are going to only offer that fight for all year or something. We've seen it with Khabib and Islam, the guys do not lose very easy so most top guys decline. Sandhagen was rightfully an underdog even though Umar beat no one in top 10.

You seem to be leaving out that Merab himself was the one who refused a title shot earlier because Sterling was champ. He also started out with back to back losses, and the Moraes win aged like milk, and all of his wins were complete snoozers.

Who was the murderer's row O'Malley went through to get his title shot? His only win over a top contender was a robbery split decision with 25/26 media scores for Yan, and a win over Kris Moutinho and a loss to Chito.

Hey, hey, hey... now...
Give him credit.

Don't forget his fight with Pedro Munhoz... which he was losing, so decided to foul himself out and knowing the UFC would make it a NC instead of DQ

funny thing is, we all hear the cries of nobody will fight me.

what they should be saying is, nobody with a high rank, earned by actually fighting

ranked fighters is willing to fight me. how many times have we seen

umar, islam, khabib fight down in rank? seems that doesn't happen till they get the title

then everybody wants to fight them and still they pick favorable matchups.

fighting guys from lower divisions, when they can barely make weight themselves

unless in dubai of course.

but we forget all the pullouts, injurys, banned substances, suspensions.

there is no denying the talent these guys posses, it is top notch,

got to give props for their manager to enable such a low risk, high reward path

through the ranks.

He’s well rounded like Usman and Islam. Grappling is a bit overrated like those 2 as well. All 3 are beatable.

None of them are as dominant or suffocating as Khabib.

So why is Umar even ranked #2? The only ranked fighter he has beaten is Sandhagen... Merab is right about Umar having not done enough to get a title shot. Sandhagen is good but that's the only ranked opponent he has fought.

I see so much talk about Merab ducking him but in reality Umar has really not done enough.

Here's the list of ranked opponents Merab beat to get his title shot...
Dodson #12, Stamman #13, Moraes #6, Aldo #3, Yan #2, Cejudo #3...

Here's Umar's list..... Sandhagen #4..... So Umar was ranked #11 despite never fighting a ranked opponent and now is #2 after beating a guy who was ranked #4... UFC is clearly pushing the shit out of him.
Nobody wanted to fight Umar until they forced him to fight song, which was utter bullshit.
He already beat Yan. That's out of the question
Figgy beat font, Cody (lol) and chito. And we're going to pretend that that's better than beating the guy who destroyed chito? Umar vs merab is the right call. It's a fresh matchup. It's an exciting fight, it's actually competitive and it anti-ducking. This is one of the very few times I'll side with the UFC. I don't like the timing. They could've fought later. But the matchup is good.

Why were people so high on Shavkat, Borz, Aspinall, Topuria etc etc

All of us who posted these kinds of threads are here to collect.

How TF anyone thought Umar was going to take this is a goddamn mystery for the ages.
