Is Merab afraid of Umar?

He might have a point saying Umar doesn't deserve a title shot but neither did Suga yet Merab is willing to give him another one.

Probably, but it's likely more that he thought winning the belt would give him some "aura", and he's bummed that Umar doesn't seem to care and that he's not even the favorite for his first title defense. Does anybody know of any title fights where the challenger was the favorite that the champ won? I know Conor was favored over Aldo, and Jones was favored over Shogun, and Colby opened as the favorite over Leon but that shifted by fight night.
Francis vs Stipe 1
Bj vs Pulver 1
Gonzaga vs Randy
I’m not sure about any of these , it’s just an interesting question and this is the best I can do off the top of my head

I don't know, according to dana, merab walked into Dana's office, said he was sick of Umars disrespectful tone and demanded the fight as soon as possible...

Sooo I think the answer is a resounding no

This.

Merab just doesn't like that Umar is getting a title shot off one ranked win, and that's fair enough.

And it's not even like Cory is some amazing win. Cory is #2, but he hasn't got and kept that ranking by beating the top guys himself. His only real decent wins are Song and Font, and neither of those guys are elite. Cory's had 3 fights against top guys in TJ, Aljo, and Yan, all of which were champs, and he lost all of those pretty convincingly.

But if Umar can go from guys like Kelleher and Barcelos who weren't ranked, and then that regional debutant can, to fighting Cory, then can other fighters as well?

Like, if the Merab fight falls through, is he going to be willing to fight someone ranked 15 if they get on twitter and whine about it like he did? What about if he becomes champ? Will he be okay with defending against unranked guys? Because when SUga was champ he was on twitter calling him a duck for not suddenly fighting him when he had no ranked wins.

Umar isn't a "scary" fighter. Just Merab wants to keep his belt and knows he has to hand it over.

I think Randy and Gonzaga was even odds, but the other 2 sound right.

I think its more of a “more risk than reward” scenario

These up and coming killers can take your top spot with one slip-up in this game of inches

These title-holders have known that, so they avoid these type of matches as much as they can control

Then on the other hand, we have some champs that actually WANT the very next best guy next every-outing. And we respect those men
umar started doing that before he was top 10.

he never risked anything, he was outside the top 10 when he fought sandhagen.

it was a win, win. just like his fight with merab.

but you know umar comes from a good camp.

so he should get a free ride to the top. lol

He's def triggered by him.

I never seen him like this w no one else.

How do you know they avoided him? Do you have a records of phone calls and messages of fighters rejecting Umar?
Common sense tells me so, I don't need shit like that.
There was a time when an undefeated fighter would have been pretty high on any list because EVERYONE wanted to be the first to take the 0 off him.
Maybe that was before you knew MMA existed.
