What is it about Aspinall that Jones is afraid of?

Fuck the striking. Jones can take him down( Aspinall isn't a wrestler) and elbow him. Just like he did stipe. Jiujitsu guardplay doesn't work in modern mma against an elite guy like Jones. Ngannou showed ut against ferreira

Aspinall is heavy handed but who cares, so is Pereira and nobody thinks he can beat Jones.

Jones is looking for the lowest risk, highest reward fights possible. Now this isn’t meant to disrespect to Pereira, but he has a big name and also has shown a weakness in his game in an area Jones excels in. He is dangerous but the path to victory is quite clear.

Aspinall on the other hand is not well established yet. He is big, fast, and powerful. He has unknowns to his game that may or may not benefit Jones, but the path to victory is not necessarily clear. That’s not a gamble Jon wants to take.

Because Jones has never faced an athlete like Aspinall before who can knock him out with one punch.

As for wrestling... I don't think Jones is too confident he can take Tom down and control him on the ground. If he were, he'd gladly take that fight and not think twice.

Jones is likely playing mind games with Tom. Sure, he likely recognizes Tom as a dangerous opponent but I do believe he would be willing to fight him if he had to. I believe hes trying to frustrate Tom. Like a strict parent with a needy toddler , he's not going to give him what he wants right away but will make him wait and the longer Jon plays him off the more bitter Tom gets and the more Jon and a fight with him eats at his mental. Eventually it weights on him and leads to mental exhaustion .Jones all about these mind games. He's making Tom obsess over him that way Jon becomes larger and bigger than life.

You should ask yourself why Jon Jones is the underdog.

He's afraid of a fellow martial artist as well versed in the art of fingering as he is

Funny how when GSP cherry-picked people, his fans took no issue with it but with Jones it’s a mortal sin.

And for the record, I don’t think he’s cherry picking anyway.

He’s not afraid of him. He just doesn’t seem him as anything special. People have short memories because people said Gane was going to destroy Jones. Then after he lost, the narrative was he was never that good. Jon thinks the same of Tom.

If he were to destroy Tom, people will say Tom wasn’t that good and it won’t mean much on Jon’s resume. He also admitted that it’s a dangerous fight and if he does lose, that hurts his legacy where he’s trying to cement it.

The problem is it’s his job to defend against the best and not cherry pick. Tom is at least the champion and if Jones wins, I personally think it’s a huge deal from a legacy perspective. Unifying the title in your final fight would be a great capper.

All risk, no reward career-wise. Aspinall brings about 100-200 PPV buys MAX. Kind of a waste of time legacy-wise and financially. Unless the UFC pays Jones as much money as he'd make with a more marketable opponent.

It's dumb saying he's "afraid" of him. These guys fight in a cage for a living.

But I can guarantee he doesn’t like the matchup. A younger, much bigger and definitely faster guy with KO power and at least a fairly good grappling base isn't a fight Jon is dying for.

It's interesting, people talk about Jones fight IQ maybe his biggest asset (and I mostly agree) but can't wrap their brain around him seeing this guy and saying "Nah...I don't need that problem at 38 as I'm one foot out the door. No thanks. Give me the smaller guy that's a bigger name who has no grappling abilities please."

I've said this in other threads: First, what some haters might say afterwords if Jones wins ("Tom was never that good!") shouldn't determine title fights. Ever. BUT, Jones has no obligation to fight Tom IF Jon is willing to vacate the belt. He can then retire or fight Alex or whoever.

The odd thing is, why would Jon or his fans care what some people might Tweet about Tom if Jon beats him...but somehow DON'T care about the fact those same people think he's ducking Tom now? Either care about those people's opinions or don't, but don't pick and choose when they matter.
