Whether you love or hate Trump we all need to recognize that his is a disaster at managing the US brand internationally. His tariffs and boorish behavior has caused a backlash across the world and leading to a boycott of US goods. These are all self inflected woulds, there is no need to behave the way he does. In fact, his behavior and mouth need to needless headaches and heartaches for American business and people.

International tourism alone is over a trillion dollar industry. I know that my state's biggest foreign visitor has been Canada which will probably take a huge hit. We are seeing agricultural boycotts not as well as wine and spirits.

No there is no need for Trump to be as abrasive as he has been and it significantly hurts the US brand.

Can anyone justify this shit?

They're boycotting US f'n war planes, bud.

It's hard to fathom the US sinking any lower.

I think Trump went the wrong way about tariffs and it's really pissed a lot people off. His attitude seems negative to anybody that isn't American. Maybe he will change his tune soon and realize his bluff has been called.

What gets me is that there is no reason to be a jerk and many reasons to be a gentleman. It's just crazy, like he is intentionally trying to cause a recession. Then the billionaire folks can buy stuff up on the cheap.

Where are the republicans speaking up on this? Are they so terrified or are they on board with a stock market crash?

He just won a landslide election based almost solely on a prolonged campaign of negativity, identity politics, culture wars, and bullish behaviour.

When your country rewards abhorrent behaviour, why change on the international platform?

I mean, we know the answers to "why change", the man wasn't popular on the international stage to begin with, but it's probably his logic. That he's dialed it up to 11 is bizarre, but understandable. He probably looks at Putin and sees that as model behaviour. Take what you want, screw everyone else, but it's not going to work for him.

I'm American and his attitude seems negative to me too

I have found that foreigners love the weak US president. They gush over them not realizing they are wolf's in sheep clothing. Trump says publicly what they quietly say. Worried about the " brand". This country doesn't need to worry about the brand. Take care of our cou try that is what the clear mandate he was given after 4 years of mismanagement is. I will be the first to admit I don't understand the silly comments about Greenland and Canada are about. I wish he would keep that stuff to himself.
Also on a fair note the rate of Canadiams complaining about the mess their country has become is stunning. I used to vacation every August there so still stay in touch with people and that country seems to have gone off a cliff since 2020.

I think he made a deal with the billionaires to tank the economy so badly that they can buy up more shit for cheaper. It’s the only thing that makes sense. Even millionaires won’t benefit from this. Everyone in this country will suffer more because of this man

Never been a big fan of Trump but if I was a US voter I would have voted for him over Kamala and Biden just because the other option was so much worse in my opinion.

The left dismisses the cultural issues as if they're insignificant, but they're not. All the gender and race nonsense the left was pushing, and the whole open border insanity was impossible to ignore and it eventually led to their downfall.

I'm not a fan of the tariffs, and I don't think it's a great strategy to bully your allies but I guess time will tell if it works for him or not. As a Canadian I wish he wasn't so hostile towards us, but our country was fucked well before he took power thanks to Trudeau and the commies that ran it into the ground for the past decade or so. Can't blame tariffs for that, if anything this could be a wake up call for us to turn it around and become less dependant on others, sometimes things have to get worse before they get better so maybe a blessing in disguise.

It's personal opinion what you think weighs heavier, cultural issues or economic issues.

I feel like there are plenty on the right that considered Trump a safer pair of hands economically. It's them that may change their minds on Trump, probably not those focused on cultural issues.

But I suppose you have to see the long term effects of Trump's fiscal policies and international relations actually play out. Even if he sacks off relations with traditional allies, if somehow he can boost the nation's economy with bigger deals with places like China and Russia, that's when people have to just swallow the fact that his plan worked whether they like him or not.

Not gonna hold my breath on that, though.

- Why would someone be afraid of a president acting tough? He will do nothing basides barking, he isnt some madman, he is just a douche.

Trump's just following Reagan's playbook to a T, who was following Nixon's playbook.

Before Nixon, conservatives were basically hated because of Vietnam, the John Birch society, and the fact that conservative economic interests pandered solely to the wealthy. Nixon himself was seen as uncomfortable and shifty-eyed. However Nixon employed a brilliant strategist (Guille, I think) whom everyone can read, where he suggested that "Americans are dumb" and "want their thinking done for them".

So Nixon asked how can we get people to vote for us when they don't agree with our economic interests? Guille's answer was to use more theatrics, appeal to emotion, culture war shit, and voila Nixon is elected after think tanks were set up, publishing houses, etc., that all pushed propaganda that had very little to do with fact - the object was to appeal to emotion instead (commies, gays, Muslims, trannies, etc. - it's all just different pews in the same church.

Reagan comes along with:

slogans of Make American Great Again and expressed that the turn of the century (1900) was the ideal America (before income taxes, before labor laws, before regulations that ensure your home isn't built on a toxic waste dump, etc).

He then gave us Reagonomics or trickle down.

He pushed culture war bullshit instead of any economic model that would benefit anyone except the upper crust.

All of the exact same shit that Trump is doing, except Trump is an idiot and just does it right out in the open.

If you remember Greoric, he used to argue that Democracy was bad because it catered to the lowest common denominator. Now I see where he was coming from. Greoric, if you are still out there, you were right.

What exactly was the “brand” to you before Trump supposedly destroyed it?

It certainly wasn’t a ceasefire in Ukraine brand. Not a fair trade brand. Not a Latin American cooperation on immigration brand. Not a “we don’t need to stick our dick in every war” brand. Not a “not the world’s piggy bank” brand.

Is it just his aggressiveness and brashness? That’s not enough.

And no, tourism won’t suffer. Get real

Last month, the number of Canadians taking road trips into the U.S.—representing the majority of Canadians who visit—dropped by 23% compared to February 2024, according to data released Monday from Statistics Canada, while Canadian air travel to the U.S. was down by 2.4% over the same period.

This is just one country.

If Europe follows suit, which anecdotally seems fairly likely on the European end, where is the shortfall going to be made up from?

You might be right, it's not a silly stance by any means, but where are you looking? Brazil, Saudi Arabia, places like that? It's a lot of tourism to replace.

The US Travel Association had predicted a bumper year with heavily increased traffic from Canada and Mexico. Really?

Well you can say that but even Putin comes across with far more dignity than Trump. The world stage has never seen bull shit like this.

Tourism already is suffering along with many companies that rely on exports. Stocks in decline too.

You honestly think Trump can act this way and that there will be no repercussions? You need to take a look at what is happening.
