Tom Aspinal riding Jon Jones hate is Cringe

If the 6 year gap between Jones and Aspinall, while both being in their 30's, is a disadvantage for Jones. Then the same thing can be said about the 5 year gap between Jones and old man Stipe. It's not like Jones winning over a 42 year old Stipe is the same as beating Stipe in his prime..
No, Stipe and jones have similar years in the fight game. Jones being in his late 30s means nothing because he has been a professional MMA fighter longer than Stipe. He has also been in the UFC longer than Stipe and Jones has more fights than Stipe.

In combat sports you have a small window of about 10--20 years average when you go pro. Career spans for an MMA fighter is typically around 6-10 years, Jones has been a professional competitor since 2008. He has been fighting for about 16 years professionally. Stipe has been a professional fighter for about 14 years.

Aspinall has been in the ufc since 2020. Jones has been fighting in the UFC since 2008. Stipe has been fighting in the UFC since 2011. There is no comparison, jones and stipe have been fighting in the UFC for more than a decade. The UFC is not BAMMA fights, it is one of the toughest orgs to compete in.

Everyone and their mother is hating on Jon Jones for ducking Tom, I get it.

But it is sooooo cringe that Aspinal rides this bandwagon. Why are none of us talking about the fact that a much younger athletic heavyweight is talking about fighting Jon as if he is fighting Jon in his prime? Jon hasn't fought in years and is at the end of his career.

I get it, not like Tom has any other choice as the belt is being stalled, but this pretend treatment that Tom is some legendary fighter or some sort is hilarious.

Jon is right, Stipe is the legacy fight. Tom may be a heavyweight GOAT, but its way too early to see this. 30 years down the road, Tom could end up being another Johnny Walker. While Stipe is supposed to be the consensus heavyweight GOAT. For a legacy and likely retirement fight, Stipe makes far more sense economically, legacy, and obviously too from a winning perspective.

Does anyone else not agree that its a bit cringe that we're treating this as if this is Jon Jones in his prime?
Aspinall is doing everything he can to get the Jones fight. He knows it will be the biggest payday he can get, and I'm sure he thinks he will win. I think his cringy act may actually work too. If Jones wants to keep fighting, he will fight Aspinall, so might as well let the hype continue, and build the fight up as much as possible. Jones is at his best when he is motivated, and if Tom keeps talking, he may actually get Jon interested. Jones is still close enough to his prime to beat Aspinall, and if Dana will open his pocketbook, this fight will happen!

Aspinall calling out old past their prime big names that won their first belt like 14 years ago instead of a prime Gane that would out strike him and expose that Aspinall's grappling isn't as great as people think.

it’s like Chandler crying for the McGregor fight. Have a bit of self respect at this stage. I feel second hand embarrassment for him.

Yeah calling out the guy that beat Gane in 2 mins instead of Gane.

This cant be real.

Styles make fights, people are making the same criticism to Jones for wanting the Poatan fight instead of Aspinall because Aspinall is the more dangerous matchup, despite Poatan being the far more accomplished and higher status fighter, because he has weak wrestling whereas Jones excels there.

Gane has a better chance to beat Aspinall than he does Jailton, doesn't mean he needs to call out Jailton due to some honor code, he should challenge the higher status Aspinall. Jones is doing the same thing with Poatan instead of fighting Aspinall.

Yeah styles make fights which is why Jon wants to fight the 37 year old flat footed kickboxer with barely any MMA experience who just had a tough fight with Khalil Rountree and was getting wrestlefucked by 40 year old Jan instead.

Poatan is not "far more accomplished" in MMA, tbh he should be lower than Tom on the p4p list at this point. He was knocked out cold last year and is nowhere near as dominant in his victories. Jamahal Hill and Khalil are hardly some higher level of opposition than Pav, Blaydes and Volkov either.

Gane has had 2 failed title shots within the last 3 years and is currently on a one fight win streak. He also ducked Tom already.

Jones is what, 36?

He hasn't taken much damage in his career, is (rightly or wrongly) the hw champion. If he's out of his prime it's from self-afflicted cocaine abuse and Aspinall is well within his rights to call Jones out.
hes 37 sir hes been fighting longer than stipe
hes been fighting as a 21 year old boy vs 31 year fully grown prime men back then
hes been fighting monsters almost half of his life

its not just normal fights but 17 title fights the hardest fights
not just some khabib no name winstreak lol

you dont get it do you imagine a 21 year old kid fighting prime age men aging 31 years old

and up to this day hes still fighting
hes the only fighter who has fought 3 generations of monsters

you should atleast think of that

Bro, Jones is the champion, Tom is the interim champion

Jones owes it to the fans and to Tom to fight him

Maybe tom should just call Jones a bitch, like Stipe did ...

Lol, no. Jon deserves it. He just beat up an old ass man who retired 3 years ago.

Tom could end up being a Johnny Walker??? Dude, hes already far surpassed walker. He's the interim champ and he easily dispatched the guy people thought was the scariest in the division.

That's crazy to do at 21. Like his performance was enhanced or something beyond normal limits<EdgyBrah>

Defend or vacate.

Hate on a 37 vs 42. But foaming at the mouth of a 30 vs 37 with size advantage in a weight class he just got to. Autism is rampant here.
No. Jones is the one with size advantage.

Tom and Jon and both in their 30s. Not only is anything over 40 very old in terms of fighting but even Rumble who is deceased (rip) fought more recently

There is no legacy there. He wants to pretend there is cuz he wants the accolades but he never actually wanted to risk his 0 to earn it. That's why he didn't move up when Stipe was champ or when Ngannou was champ and why he does t want to fight Tom

If he wants a HW legacy he had to earn it

I want the Jones/Aspinall fight like everyone else. But I almost don't blame Jones. Gane was the #1 HW, young guy, and right after he loses he is considered a white belt. If Jones dispatched Aspinall everyone would just shift to the narrative that HW division is the weakest of all time. Even beating Stipe he's completely shit on. I'm just convinced Jones could beat any fighter and the people here will shit on him nonstop.

Tom should just move on and fight his contenders. He is pretty much the legit champ and earns PPV revenue. He has nothing to offer Jones and stands to gain everything with a win. It would be hilarious if Tom steals the Pereira fight from Jones.

Just like GSP ducked Whittaker Jon will duck Tom and absolutely no one will care in a year or two, Tom gets KO’d by Derrick Lewis level fighter and we all laugh at the fact anyone thought Tom could beat Jon.
