I enjoyed Merab vs Yan a ton, he's definitely not always boring but fighters use the rank excuse when it benefits them to avoid tough fights and will cry about it when they need to fight up and those above them use that same excuse too. If Omalley was 11th Merab would take that fight lol.

Aldo is old and has no motor, he could have been more aggressive but he wilts and became gunshy because he's shot...I'm glad Merab won, he's the better fighter at this point and Aldo has no business getting a 2nd title shot just like TJ shouldn't have vs Aljo.

Merab is in a situation he put himself into.

He is the clear cut #1 contender but won't fight the champion. UFC can't afford to have him knocking down contenders.

Imagine if he grapplefucks Sandhagen next... who fights for the title after Suga Shin?

When the number 1 contender doesn't want to fight the champ it makes perfect sense. Who gives a damn what the other fighters ranked if he won't fight for the belt? It's an uncrowned title fight
 
tinfoil hat time - Merab has a secret agreement with Aljo to fight as many up and coming contenders as possible to take them out of title contention while Aljo gets easier matchups.

seriously though - fuck them being friends. this is combat sports. Merab is #1. he should get the next title shot. if he doesnt want it, force him to move up or down a division.

Because it's the most exciting fight to make? Fans want to see Umar against a top guy and if UFC brass says it's a good fight then merabs in no position to say no if he won't fight the champ. Plus we all know UFC rankings are bullshit. Half of every divisions top 10 is rank squatting afraid of the younger challengers. If merabs is #1 then #11 should be easy and merabs can gatekeep the title shot from Umar.
 
It came out at the weight in show that Merab is having hand surgery. Apparently they gonna have to take a bone from somewhere and fuse a joint in his hand (It's not a small surgery). Chris confirmed it, Chris had the same surgery and it took him a year to recover he said.

Btw, I didn't read the thread so I don't know if someone already posted what I said, my apologies if so.
