Alex isn't a MW. Alex is the current LHW champ. Jon can call out who he likes. I think he enjoys ruffling Tom's feathers by belittling him and his importance within the HW division. Tom would be smart to take this in stride and focus on the fight against Jon, which I think happens sooner rather than later.

Aspinall is an interim champion, with a title defense. He has also finished all his opponents in the UFC, most of them in round 1. One loss from a knee injury, which he avenged. In 7/8 UFC wins he was awarded performance of the night.

He won the interim belt with a round 1 KO against Pavlovich, who himself was on a run of 6 straight first round KO's.

His total fight time in the UFC is something like 18 minutes. Jones took 14 minutes to finish Stipe.

Anyone who has paid attention to the UFC heavyweight division since 2020 knows that he's extremely good. He's also in his prime, and is faster and bigger than Jon, and also hits much, much harder. Hence, Jon wants to duck him.

Aspinall hasn't done enough at HW to challenge Jones so he instead wants to defend his title against someone with zero HW fights under his belt. It makes perfect sense. You just need to get down to Jones' mental level to see it.

I was happy with Jones' performance and am licking my lips in anticipation of the Aspinall fight. I strongly believe that Jones is literally negotiating for a higher pay cheque. I would not get to caught up in all of this.

I would also say that, there is a strong possibility that Poatan is a much harder match up for Jon than Aspinall. Only time will tell, but Poatan has seriously deadly hands and fantastic fight IQ. I can see a route to victory that is more than just youthful vigour.

Aspinall appears super dominant, but he has losses and they are not against the elite of the elite. He is also untested out of the first round. In fact, his only victory in the second is to an ancient Arlovski (his other 2nd rounds were losses). If Jones survives the first and second, I suspect 3-5 round Aspinall is not fast and explosive. I can see a world where he folds faster than Stipe.

Lastly, I do see more reason to duck Aspinall. There is simply more to loose against a fighty young heavyweight who, like Cyril, may not be anythin special (even too early to say with Cyril, but he does not seem to have it- drive). If Jones looses against Poatan he will have lost against a bona fide killer who has won gold in multiple sports and divisions. The difference is stark.

Poatan's resume is fine. He fought all the guys that were available to fight and has almost all finishes. Being a three weight champ would be incredible.
