Indeed. If Americans aren't clever enough to do the requested job it's understandable. It fucked me off when UK had to tender out to the EU for various outsourcing of things like food for schools.
But any normal sort of job that doesn't require someone whose won awards and stuff an exception does get made.
I am of the opinion that they absolutely are good enough to do the job, but it all comes down to price. A $60,000 worker from India is a hell of a lot cheaper than $120,000 worker from America. You don’t have to pay for payroll taxes, you don’t have to pay for Healthcare, you don’t have to pay for insurance, no matching 401….
Today I lost a lot of fellow workers that have been there for over a decade, many that I mentored and know they’re capabilities, and I mentored dozens of H1B workers, and I am also familiar with their strengths and weaknesses. I really don’t view the H1B‘s as a superhuman race, they are just good workers just like the rest of the American crew, however they undercut a whole lot. The ratio of H1B’s that have been chopped are much higher than native workers, many of them , damn near all of them have more credentials than me, but their skillset isnt at the same level. Many talk a great game, have really high confidence, and underperform, however, with enough brute force, you will find good workers at the expense of americans.
Imagine if doctors, lawyers, any other profession was treated that way, there would be an uproar.
Perfectly good developers were let go, not because they were under performing, our private equity owners wanted to see increased profit.
