AI sucks balls

AI is only as good as the info it has programmed into it. For a great example, look at wikipedia. What started out as a great free information platform now gets censored or edited by people with a certain agenda. If your information doesnt fit that agenda, theres potential it is left out or edited. Same will be true for whichever AI your using. OpenAI is already leaning more left in its responses while Grok seems to be impersonating elon.

At the end of the day these are glorified search engines. The video generation AI's do concern me and I do believe the internet as we know it will probably be dead in 5-10 years., oversaturated by bots and AI videos. Eventually people will want to interact in the real world again as its the only thing they can be sure is real.

learned a new coding language about 99X faster than i would have without llms

finding scientific citations is about 10X faster now.

i use LLM web search more than I use google now.

more than half of all US physicians use open evidence (medical journal licensed LLM) on a daily basis.

editing/tailoring my CV and cover letters towards specific job applications is much streamlined

if you think the tech sucks, its probably becaues you dont know how to make use of it.

if youre expect LLMs to become AGI, well thats partially your own fault and partially the fault of the capitalism machine making promises.
This guy has no idea what he’s talking about. His name is like his post. Just a bunch of abbreviations all over the place.
BJNWC3 says The LLC don’t DMV with the DVD, so AGI needs its USD from MJJ for more QVC.

After using it for a while now, I think I can confidently say that it sucks. And I'm not sure it will ever live up to the hype for these reasons:

1. There's an old addage that goes something like, "Humans are smart but slow. Computers are dumb but fast." And that's been true forever. And it seems like AI hasn't changed that at all.

AI can make you a PowerPoint presentation, or write an essay, or generate some code, but all of it still needs to be reviewed and corrected by a human. So at best, AI is giving you a 1st draft that's usually pretty low quality. It's doing the "dumb but fast" work. Which isn't that different from what computers have always done.

2. When you ask it questions, it's basically just pulling information from the Internet and compiling it into an answer for you. But compiling and summarizing info is something computers could already do without AI. So it really doesn't feel like there's any "intelligence" there.

3. I'm not sure that AI will get much better. Humans are the flaw in the system. Because AI is trained to give humans what they want/need, but humans can't agree on shit. So we want AI to give us accurate answers but some humans will say the earth is flat, and will tell the AI that any answer to the contrary is incorrect, so the AI will struggle to provide facts because nobody can agree on the basic facts of anything anymore.

So the promise that AI will cure diseases and shit I think are completely false. I don't see any of those positive contributions that we're expecting. But we still get all the downsides, like students cheating, jobs being eliminated, fake videos and other AI slop flooding the market. Etc.

It seems like we're going to get all the downsides and very few, if any, upside.

I've never been a Luddite and I have always loved cool new tech, but AI sucks and I think it's likely that it always will.
Does it finger the asshole while doing so?

It does. The kinks still haven’t been worked out and the AI companies in turn just ask their investors for Dr Evil amounts of money

Too early to call it a total bubble.. but it’s late enough in the ballgame that we can acknowledge their whole “exponential progress” pitch was fugazi. Guys like Altman, the Japanese futurist guy etc.. they would boast about the limitless and explosive progress of AI without acknowledging that our current AI is based in Large Language Models.

It’s becoming clear that model is more logarithmic then exponential

Just add boobs and a flashlight
Did they purposely make this thing move like a geriatric so i'd feel sympathy for it and not make it do anything?

Been using AI for about a year now for a variety of tasks... it's getting better at an alarming rate.

Probably so you don't kick its robotic ass when you come home pissed off because of work

AI will get better as soon as neuromorphic chips are introduced. It will happen around 2030. Think Skynet level better.

AI right now is overhyped by dumb people who don't understand how it works and its limitations. It is an incredibly powerful tool in the hands of those who do.

I'm glad you're seeing the light. I hope that you'll begin to connect the dots as to why the fat cats keep trying to shove it down our throats and stop worshipping them, and I hope that you'll begin to understand why we need to take a more...French ....approach to them.

in a discussion about AI, LLM and AGI are no where near being isoteric abbreviations. Theyre basically the most discussed things on the topic..

I absolutely hate any type of AI-generated art.

I like using it to find things and generate release notes or epics and user stories to be refined later.

I used some AI video rendering earlier this year for a music video & i really liked the results. However, it was a lot of work to get it to do what i wanted & i havent tried to do it again . . .

I don't get the hype. I don't see it becoming anything close to what people expect from it
