Rumored Dana: Jones "DEFINITELY Wants Aspinall Fight" - "WILL Happen In Summer"

Just fucking fight the guy. If you lose, you lose, so what it's HW, everyone loses eventually and usually sooner than later. If you win, you win and I'll be the first one to give him credit if he can do it but this habit of jerking everyone around was already old a few years ago.
I think Jones has nothing to lose. A loss doesn't hold him back in the twilight of his career, he's in a higher weight class with the biggest jump compared to other GOATs with tons of mileage.

But I guess if he wants to pull a Khabib or GSP then he should just walk without a bad loss at the end of his career. I think his striking skills, cardio, and wrestling should be plenty to handle Aspinall personally.

I just wish UFC either vacates Jones or signs the fight. Last time there was this long weird wait with no real communication at HW we lost Ngannou/Jones when Ngannou left. So I'm expecting the worst. They've had long enough to raise the $ until Jones signs the fight or not with negotiations. Aspinall is just wasting away on the shelf because of this shit.

Negotiations sound like they've completed. When this fight gets announced I expect to see a thread with very many apologies to Jon for calling him a scared duck daily for like a year.
The Stipe fight was still a joke and I'll never be a fan of how he's been allowed to juice.
But I will definitely respect him taking on the next generation and defending his legacy there if/when he does.

Be up there with Mayweather taking on Alvarez.

Yles.

Jones ducked the guy who QUIT the UFC instead of fighting him. Who fled to another sport.

and then he "ducked" the #8 ranked fighter who just lost to Curtis Blaydes instead of fighting the #2 Hw after Gane

make it, make sense.

Never heard a single person say Ngannou ducked

Which is even funnier when you realize ngannou left for a payday. He wanted a big fight that commanded the biggest payday, the exact thing that Jones is getting shit on for pursuing, lol.

Not only has ngannou not been shit on for it, he's been made out to be a folk hero of sorts.

Double standards are wild.

Huh? Nobody thought Jones shouldn't fight Gane when he did. That was the obvious fight at HW once Ngannou left.

Let's see what Jones does now. All this talk about if he previously ducked anyone or not...who cares? Look forward. Alex lost. The shine is off that fight. Jones really has 2 options now. Retire, or fight Tom. That's it. Honestly, to me whichever of those options he chooses is fine. Retire, and the division moves on. Some people will think he ducked Tom. Maybe he did...but doesn't matter. If he retires and stays retired he can legit claim he decided he was done. If he fights Tom, awesome. We get the fight we should all want.

The only thing that would outright make it so he couldn't hide that he's ducking Tom would be to try to finagle a fight vs anyone else. He had a leg to stand on with the "Megafight" vs Alex. That's gone. There's nobody else now. Tom, or retire. That's it.

I'm of a similar sort of mind that we've seen from other fighters like volk, Ilia, Mir and such who've commented on this

Whether he beats or loses to Aspinall, it doesn't change anything about his legacy.

His wins over DC alone hold infinitely more weight than anything Tom has ever done or will do.

And if that's the case, the only real point of taking the fight would be money.

So, ultimately it comes down to the ufc paying Jones a bigger chunk of the pie.

And because It's either that, or Jones simply never fights again, I think this is the rare occasion where the UFC is actually gonna do it.

Hopefully anyways

Agree with most of this. A loss to Tom doesn't hurt Jones legacy, but a win would definitely add to it. I also think it's too soon to say "anything Tom will ever do". He has a lot of years left. If he's dominating the HW division for the next 5-7 years (not saying he will, but IF he did) then he will start being in that conversation.

Yes ...

Anyone with a brain knows that.

Even setting that aside, why would a retired fighter COMING OFF A KO LOSS fight for a title?

Its so stupid at face value it doesn't even need to be stated.
So
To be clear

Jones ducked the #7 ranked HW (who just came off a loss against Curtis Blaydes)

by fighting the #2 HW (who came off a loss from a new HW champion)?

This is correct?

Yes, of course.

Explain to a 5 year old how you can be world ranked in a sport without competing for 4 years?

It is so sweepingly, exhaustively stupid at face value I cannot believe I'm typing this out, but here we are.

Lmao. Jones teases moving up and waits 3+ years while Francis is on top. When Francis' contract is up and he wants to renegotiate with UFcheap, he risks it for the biscuit (and came out on top).

Francis leaves for bigger and better things. Suddenly, a wild Jones appears ready to fight at HW (and picks the easy matchup, a pillowfisted kickboxer who cant wrestle).

Make it make sense.

You have your chronology very mixed up.

Prior to March 2021: Francis wasn't the champ
March 2021: Francis wins the UFC HW title
March 2021-October 2021: Francis heals from the title fight and seeks a defense. At this point Jones has 0 heavyweight bouts.
October 2021: Francis vs. Ciryl announced.
January 23 2022: Francis fights Ciryl.
January 26 2022: Francis announces he won't return until a knee surgery and recovery, so he is targeting 2023.
March 2022: Francis has the surgery. 9 month recovery reported. Targeted return early 2023.
January 2023: Francis leaves the UFC after turning 8million to fight Jones in 24 million contract.

Francis was champion less the 140 days.

At which point could Jones have forced Francis to fight?

Especially when Francis, ultimately turned the down the Jones fight and quit the UFC ?

I don't think so. This fights intrigue and marketability is about Alex moving up for a 3rd title and champ vs champ. But now that Alex isn't champ, he's not gonna get a direct title shot at HW. And Jones won't go back down to LHW.
Jones fighting Alex was never dependent on a title being on the line. He literally said he'd vacate the title and fight Alex. This makes it easier, since Alex wouldn't be holding up a division by moving up for a Jones fight.

And no, the "intrigue and marketability" is dependent on a title. Jones vs. Alex at HW without a title is still one of the biggest money fights the UFC could do.

Well for one, I would start with basic math.

Stipe lost the championship to Francis in March 2021. Jones called him in in March 2023 after beating the #1 HW Gane

2023-2021 is not = 4, its equal to 2

In this case its just under two, so I might add, there are 365 days in a year.

exhausting stupid you say?

I really hope it happens, its the fight that everyone wants to see, it needs to happen!!!. UFC is so thin on big time fights, this would be a really big fight and its been a big build up. Praying it happens.
