I think because China is more focused on other things instead putting money into a “Sport” that less than 10yrs ago to them was how everyone in US looked at MMA/UFC 30yrs ago. It took the UK almost 20yrs since their first countrymen in Ian Freeman to capture gold in Michael Bisping.

Ex soviet countries are a force to be reckoned with in boxing, Judo, wrestling, Sambo etc. It only makes sense that they would be in MMA. They start very young on average in combat sports and if they're successful their country supports the pursuit as it's seen as a respectable career path. Central Asia is huge in this equation though, their boom for MMA is just beginning but the UFC will oppress it as they do it boxing, but they're producing boxing champions consistsntly now ontop of the olympic medals in amateurs etc. That's the big difference between the US/UK/Oceania...these ex soviet guys start on average much younger. And while in places like Brazil, UK, Oceania, Latin America etc. What they lack is accessible world class resources and coaching, in Russia it's not the case...Look at Shabliy and Evloev, their striking coach is Artem Levin and wrestling coach Sharap Gitinov back home...every gym has access to great wrestling, sambo, boxing, kickboxing...it's part of their culture, even a lot of smaller Russian gyms have surprisingly deep stables and networks. If the UFC had 50 Russians instead of 25 on its roster and actually signed the best ones, and they had 30-40 Central Asians...you'd see much of the promotion get eclipsed...the talent level on average is much higher.
Ukraine is great at boxing, they are not on the map for MMA.

It’s true, even in boxing, they are starting to challenge the notion of the Americas (all of them) being superior than the rest of the world.
The Slavs / Caucasus fighters are putting European fighters on the map. I expect more boxing champs / phenoms in the future.

Japan has 2 of the top 10 p4p boxers in the world right now and like 10 world champs lmao. Latinos and African Americans were never superior to the rest of the world in boxing, the market and promotions/promoters all just exist for the western world. It's why guys like Khaosai Galaxy and Chris John just got ignored their entire title runs...They wouldn't pay them shit to fight in the US, nobody cared about them in the western world because they weren't Spanish or English speaking and they made millions filling up arenas in their home countries while guys avoided them. Boxing is crooked, MMA is also kinda crooked like this but people don't realize...there's so much elite talent that doesn't get signed because they're from the wrong countries. When the iron curtain fell and guys in Russia, the Caucasus and Eastern Europe could box along with central Asians...yup, the Americas don't look so untouchable all of a sudden. UK boxing is shockingly good though, to be honest.

What major combat sports does China excel at? Wrestling, freestyle or greco? Boxing? Muay Thai? Sambo? Judo? Kickboxing? BJJ? No Gi? I don't understand why anyone would think China would do well in MMA because of its history with Tai Chi and Shaolin Monks. Similarly with India...it's just not in their culture, they dont have the gyms, the coaches, the training partners, the structures in place to actually develop successful generations of MMA fighters. Look at Japan it's a top 5 nation in Wrestling and boxing, the best in Judo, great kickboxers, Kyokushin etc. And a lot of these things are part of their school systems and culture etc. Yet even with athletes starting young in MMA they cannot figure out how to produce much world class talent at all...their gyms, coaches, developmental process are all failing the talent..

China has little to no potential for MMA. If they really wanted to invest in it and produce waves of talent like the prominent countries...it would take 10 years or more...like I said, the gyms don't exist, he sparring partners don't exist, the coaches don't exist....nobody seems to understand what makes good fighters they just say "there's over a billion people in this country, it should produce elite fighters". I'm not old yet but I'm beginning to become a cynical fuck...I realize most people on an MMA forum know nothing about MMA and especially don't understand how it works...they just follow the media and watch the fights.

10k is worth a lot more to a Dagestani than someone from the west. Sure the top guys make a lot of money, but most don't really make that much.

Sanda isn't widely competed in outside of China so...doesn't count for much. Women's MMA isn't a real sport.

I know this is an MMA forum, but you shouldn't really talk if you don't actually watch other combat sports. China currently has two K-1 champions, Liu Ce and Ouyang Feng, a top-5 ranked boxer Zhilei Zhang, not to mention Zhang Weili, the current UFC Straweight champ.
