Rumored Dana: Jones "DEFINITELY Wants Aspinall Fight" - "WILL Happen In Summer"

I just hope we get to see what happens if Jones Aspinall happens and Jones wins. Would love to watch how either people write off the entire HW division as trash and Jones really sucked the golden era. Or maybe people say Almeida/Pavlovich is the real nightmare matchup for Jones.
HW in general is the nightmare matchup for Jones. If he fought the top 5 (and no, Stipe wasn't in the top 5) he wouldn't lose them all but he wouldn't win them all either. Because he's someone who can't accept having a loss, he has to be a cherry picking diva, which goes against the kill or be killed ethos of HW. The HW division is for fighters who will fight anyone they are told to and are prepared live or die every time. Jon makes a mockery of this and has turned almost the entire mma community against him. The number of people who are put off and disgusted with Jon Jones just keeps growing every day.

Makes sense Alex is (was) the only star aside from Jones.

There is no super fight to be had.

Similar to the Francis quitting situation. After Francis quit instead of fighting Jones it relegated Jones to fighting the interim champ Gane, who wasnt a star

Same with Apiral, Jones will have to right a relative unknown

This is re-writing history.

Jon insisted on fighting someone:

- 42 years old
- coming out of retirement
- off a brutal KO loss

We're past the point of duck discussions, he already did it. Dana has now publicly stated Jones will fight Aspinall or no one, while Jon publicly tried to get a 185/205 fighter to meet him at heavyweight for the first time.

Keep in mind, I don't blame Jon at all - the point of prize fighting is make the most money for the least brain damage. It is the UFC's fault allowing a circus fight to happen in the first place.

Either way it is undeniable Jon was trying to fight the easiest opponents, not the #1 contender.
Who exactly did Jones duck?

By not calling out the #8 ranked fighter who lost to Curtis Blaydes after beating the #1?

I guess I don't get too attached to personalities or ped popping for myself. It's understandable. Even as a Jones fan you have to admit he pissed away his career many times and could've done more. I personally think after Aspinall, Jones could beat Stipes defense record though.

So what's the next move for Jon Jones?

Maybe lobby for another legacy fight against hot balls Derrick Lewis? Certainly there's a few narratives you could convince Jones fanboys with that Lewis is more deserving than Aspinall.

Everybody knows Jones ducked Francis and Jones is ducking Aspinall.

Unless you're Jones himself or his late night booty call butt buddy, let's not get the narrative twisted.

Yes.

Jones ducked the guy who QUIT the UFC instead of fighting him. Who fled to another sport.

and then he "ducked" the #8 ranked fighter who just lost to Curtis Blaydes instead of fighting the #2 Hw after Gane

Funny

Derick Lewis is ranked about the same as Aspiral was when Jones beat Stipe

maybe Jones is ducking Lewis now

Anything Jones says at this point only adds to potential contract negotiations

So. Should be taken with a grain of salt.

If they throw money at him, he's probably gonna take it.

So it really comes down to the ufc.
"He said no, but because he's a special boy in my heart, saying no can actually be a super yes"

Lmao. Jones teases moving up and waits 3+ years while Francis is on top. When Francis' contract is up and he wants to renegotiate with UFcheap, he risks it for the biscuit (and came out on top).

Francis leaves for bigger and better things. Suddenly, a wild Jones appears ready to fight at HW (and picks the easy matchup, a pillowfisted kickboxer who cant wrestle).

Make it make sense.

Yes ...

Anyone with a brain knows that.

Even setting that aside, why would a retired fighter COMING OFF A KO LOSS fight for a title?

Its so stupid at face value it doesn't even need to be stated.

"He said no, but because he's a special boy in my heart, saying no can actually be a super yes"
Nothing I said is inaccurate.

It's a negotiating tactic which utilizes public pressure, Dana does the same thing on the reverse end of the spectrum.

Even Dana said what Jones says in public vs private are 2 different things.

Everything should always be taken with a grain of salt until we actually hear anything official. including Dana.

None of us really know what's going to happen. Acting like we have the answers and speaking with conviction is just foolish.

Being real doesn't mean he's my boy or that I care more about him than the next guy. It's simply being real.

Just fucking fight the guy. If you lose, you lose, so what it's HW, everyone loses eventually and usually sooner than later. If you win, you win and I'll be the first one to give him credit if he can do it but this habit of jerking everyone around was already old a few years ago.

Jones was already back In the ufc before ngannou left.

They tried to make him fight Stipe in December of 2022, but Stipe backed out at the last minute. There was no word of any contract issues from either Jones or the UFC side, by all accounts, they'd worked it out and were looking to get him a fight.

He was linked to the march 2023 card about a month before ngannou officially left to fight for the HW title, reported through several major media outlets, Ariel, Chael, I believe even DC talked about it.

Furthermore, Ngannou himself admitted after a dozen dinners and meetings over his contract, he was offered 8 million for the Jones fight and 2-3 mil for subsequent fights. The Jones fight was the capstone of the entire deal to keep him in the organization.

they wouldn't offer a fight like that on a contingency. By all accounts, Jones had already worked out his money issues with the ufc and was ready to fight.

Gane was the plan B, they were waiting to see if Ngannou would sign. When he didn't, they went forward with the Gane bout.

If you follow Jon's Twitter around December, a month before ngannou didn't resign, he stated he's training to fight for the HW title next. He was already training for it and didn't just decide to fight when ngannou left, less than 2 months from the event date.

The idea that Jones came back after ngannou left is just willful ignorance at this point. A fantasy that people who cannot see past their own hate have allowed to dominate their world view.

Which becomes all the more ridiculous when you realize Jones was a nightmare matchup for frank and most fighters picked Jones to win that matchup for a reason.
