"On Monday, Iowa Republicans will be the first Americans to vote for a presidential nominee. They’ll be doing it with a caucus, which is a time-consuming, controversial way of voting that went so poorly for Democrats recently they dropped it altogether this year."

There are no polling places. Party activists host gatherings in local gyms or churches or even people’s living rooms. Then representatives for the presidential campaigns speak. People write down who they want to vote for on blank pieces of paper. Volunteers count votes and report them up the chain. (Iowa Democrats used to have people gather in groups around the room to vote, but Republicans have always written out their choices in a secret ballot.)

Washington Post

"But Trump still holds a dominant lead in Iowa, raising questions about whether Haley will be able to have a good enough showing to gain momentum from Iowa going into New Hampshire.

According to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ polling average, Trump leads the GOP field in Iowa with 51.6 percent support. DeSantis follows at 18 percent support, while Haley closely trails at 17.1 percent."

The Hill

But, when the authoritative Des Moines Register poll came out in mid-December, it showed that none of the endorsements had changed the dynamic: DeSantis was still at fifteen per cent, and Trump was far ahead, basically out of sight, at fifty per cent. It had been fourth-and-one; the conservative leaders had given their big anti-Trump push. They’d been, it seemed, stuffed.

The weather could be a factor.

Which voters have the level of commitment to get out and caucus?

I think Trump has an advantage here. Could win by more than the polls indicate.

Bird brain's campaign is spending big cash from questionable donors on tv ads.

A lot of them used to be Desanctus donors.

This will be impactful in that both desantis and Haley supporters might decide to stay in, knowing Trump will win regardless.

This will then be embarrassing for them as they get even less vote than expected.

There were rumors that Rod would drop out after this if he got crushed, which his team denies, but I am pretty sure they out of money, so who knows

But she was making HUGE gains...said the media...

It is funny cause they were trying to say Haley got a surge of donations recently of like $22mil. But it was basically the remained of desantis big money donors that jumped ship

Pretty hilarious Desantis and Haley both pretty much ruined any further political aspirations

Like she can’t even have her own staffers, her donors, her family, etc?

It is insane how much money is being throw by both sides to oppose Trump.

I don't blame Haley, as she's kind of an anomaly, and this is about her best chance to do something. DeSantis challenging Trump was absolutely retarded though. Dude could've chilled for another four years, and built up his stock more and not rock the boat. How he ever thought he was gonna beat Trump, is beyond me, and now he's pissed off a lot of his supporters by trying to do so. He really jumped the gun. It was such a horrible move.

True enough, but even Haley could have waited on the sideline, hoping to be VP, which is what Noem is doing. She has dipped out of headliners for a while, but now will be campaigning for Trump.

In addition to Desantis, for the reasons you mentioned, Iowa gov Reynolds fucked up big time for same reasons. Imagine, “ Ron and Reyonlds 2028” assuming one or the other would be VP and continue on to 2028.

To me tho, it is divine intervention that the establishment, on both sides, threw their cards down too quickly and shown how both hate the grassroots movements in both sides, and will do everything they can to shut them up.

Trump is just bringing this all to the surface, and that is why they must crush him

That and every Republican running sucks ass

Who is better on the other side tho? That is why the brought Biden in for 2020 anyways. They needed someone corrupted enough to continue their rackets overseas and on the border.

I still think 2020 was stolen and trumps return is the only solution for democracy to prevail. And guess what, he got 74 million votes and is on track to eclipse that, with the most votes in history.

Are they going to be able to say Biden, Michelle Obama, or anyone is going to some how get 90 million? Lol.

Oh wow she can't fill that small room with supporters. Should have offered like so free five guys or something, like that room is so small but so empty.

MAGA Attack on Nikki Haley Has One Major Flaw

Republican primary candidate Nikki Haley has been mocked for canceling an event in Iowa, with MAGA supporters claiming she did so over a lack of attendees.

The former South Carolina Governor, who has been rising in the polls, was due to appear in Sioux City, Iowa, ahead of the primary season, which begins with the state's caucuses on January 15. The polls will help decide who contests the 2024 election on behalf of the Republican party.

Haley cancelled the event due to snow and cited "travel difficulties", The New York Times reported.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued warnings for parts of 14 states including Iowa on Monday and warned of difficult travel conditions and whiteout conditions in places. Up to 11 inches of snow and winds up to 40 miles an hour are expected by Tuesday afternoon.

Haley appeared in a Fox News town hall in the evening but MAGA figures on X, formerly Twitter, alleged the former UN ambassador cancelled her initial event because people did not come to it. They circulated an edited MSNBC report about the cancelled event which said it had been abandoned minutes before it was due to begin.

LOL Trump be the de facto nominee and for what. That shit bum isn't going to win the election.

Way to hand another election over the Dems again, drones.

In the past week, DeSantis raced through several events in and around Des Moines, including trade conferences, a conservatives’ breakfast, a Fox News town hall, and a CNN debate. At none did he seem to be enjoying himself. He was anxious and pugnacious, his smile labored, all while insisting that he loved being underestimated.

Sometimes, the money chasing got Haley in hot water. In November 2011, only two weeks after raising $15,000 at a Georgia fundraiser hosted by a well-connected state Republican who sat on the RGA’s finance committee, Haley intervened in a DHEC decision rejecting the state’s permit application to dredge the Savannah River over water quality concerns. Georgia’s governor had asked her to get him a hearing with the DHEC board, which she appointed, and soon the decision was reversed.
