What are you playing? v.9 (Kefka Edition)

Is a bad launch a death sentence for a new IP?

You sure love the underdogs. I remember when Fallout 76 came out everyone was shitting on it and you’re like “GOTY for me”

I respect that. I find that for video games more than just about anything else people have a group mentality and will just doggypile on a game for being bad even if it’s only got a few issues or praise a game as being glorious even if it’s only a bit decent. It’s not often in gaming that you find games that are mixed reviews.
To be fair, I didn't start playing fo76 until about a year after it released and they had fixed most of the bugs.

But yeah, I don't pay attention much to reviews. Sure Redfall is formulaic and isn't amazing... But I have fun playing it and that's all that really matters.

Yeah same. I only played Fallout 76 after the Wastelanders update and apparently it improved upon things massively.

Same with Ghostwire Tokyo. I liked the combat, but seeing just what was added with the Spiders Thread update, I get why people hated it.

Division 2 right now. They had a free weekend and the base game is on sale for $4.49. The combat is repetitive. Did a better job of altering environments so it doesnt become glaring. From the first game they learned by packing zones with side quest content.

Kind of in limbo right now waiting on Diablo 4. Saw there was a free demo available for the RE4 remake so I downloaded it as id been thinking about getting it after the reviews and loving the Dead Space remake.

I don't know what it is about the RE games but they're just not my thing. Seems really well done though. I may end up getting the game down the road when it's on sale.

Aside from D4 I'm looking forward to WoLong DLC and Alien Dark Descent next month.

The 40K “retro”-fps/boomer shooter Boltgun comes out tomorrow. Will pick it up either tomorrow or I’ll buy it for myself for my birthday on Saturday.
Happy cakeday, esquire. 21 like the rest of us, right?

The games coming out August 2023 and beyond are numerous, no? On backlog hopes for the krew, I'd hit what you can now because this summer is all you'll have open for a while. Stacked.

Starting with Diablo in early June it's nonstop for me. To many games I want to play and others I'm very interested in. I'm playing through my final backlog game now. Between Diablo 4, FF16, Legend of heroes, and Armored Core I'm going to be busy. This isn't even including the games that also piqued my interest but not sure how well they will turn out.

I finally uninstalled Civ 6.

Ran a quick, true start earth huge today, as England, and had a very good showing, settling cities on every continent. I was near end game, science was maxed and I was contemplating whether to wage war with giant death robots or wait it out and get the science win (I was about to land on Mars). I played a lot of hours of Civ 4 when I was younger, and I was never able to get the science or Domination wins, just Culture in 4, and Diplomacy in 6.

Anyway, after several hours of continuous play, the game cannot handle it's own next move and keeps crashing after my turn.

I'm done with technically shit games. It's 2023. We as consumers should not be tolerating buggy games at all.

So I bought the Tomb Raider Reboot Trilogy on the last winter sale, and was surprised to see the first two games hadn't been optimized for the Series X.

3rd person action/adventure games are damn near unplayable on a 65" HDTV at 30FPS, but I powered through the first game from 2013, and it felt like a 2013 game. The action gameplay was 'meh' and the cimbing/traversal was... better than the Uncharted series at least. Worth playing once.

Played a few hours of the 2nd game, and there really wasn't many improvements made. Got bored and stopped playing.

Just fired up the 3rd game to see if the Series X optimization improved the experience at all, and it absolutely does. The comparison between 30FPS and 60FPS in these games is huge. Will probably be playing this all the way through to see how the trilogy concludes.

Add the first two games to the list of 'titles that NEED to be optimized for modern hardware.' Because they're tollerable in their current state, but not really enjoyable.

I'm playing south park fractured but broken, really enjoying it so far. Probably the funniest game I played besides the rick and Morty one.
Did you play Stick Of Truth?
I love both but SOT is my favourite

Ehh, I'm not a tech whore, but "Shadow" is the worst one by far. The original is a bit simplistic, but I don't think they knew what they had. It was a safe reboot, but solid. "Rise" is amazing though, and I played it on a 360. The direction of that game is so friggin' tight. They nailed the "open world-ish" design, without ever losing focus. "Shadow" is just a complete mess, although it does give off a good first impression. 15 hours in, and I was just standing in some village, thinking "What is the purpose of this game?"

Yea I didn’t like the first one I got threw it and it felt like a generic adventure game. Second one was a master piece. Up there with the uncharted games imo. 3rd one was ok but there were so many sections where you fought no one for a long time. Just sort of moved through a level with simple puzzles. I didn’t understand why they did that.

Dead Space 2

I was worried it would be hard to go from the fantastic DS1 remake to this but it's such a great sequel it hasn't been. Improves just about everything from DS1. I'm not sure how I totally missed out on this franchise back in the day.

I've been told DS3 is a total departure from the formula and is not worth playing though. Say it ain't so......

No I might check it out. Is the gameplay very different?
SoT is a bit simpler on the gameplay which I actually prefer. And the writing is on par with the best episodes of SP.

FBW is more like a good episode.
