What are you playing? v.9 (Kefka Edition)

Is a bad launch a death sentence for a new IP?

Been watching my lady play Hogwarts Legacy nonstop since it launched on PS4 on Friday, and she's loving it.

My wife is loving it as well, she played all day Sunday which is unusual. Looked fun so I tried it out and it’s actually pretty fun exploring and all.

Was looking to go on an adventure in a game and so I picked up Skyrim Special Edition but go bored of it once I hit Whiterun, so I went through my catalogue and saw FFXV Royal Edition sitting there saying "hey big boy, don't forget there are 4 episodes you haven't played of me yet and we last had a fling 6.5 years ago."

So I reinstalled it. Loving it so far, the new combat changes are pretty damn good and the world is fun to be in and explore. Ya there are a lot of fetch quests but you don't really need to do 'em

Haven't done any of the character episodes yet I wanna do 'em when they appear in the game and I am only in Chapter 4 so.. About to go fuck up Titan.

And before anyone says it..

I played the demo for FF15 when it first came out, but apart from that i've never played a single FF game in my 30 years on this planet. I do have FF7 remake on ps plus, though i've never even thought about playing it.

I liked everything about this game except the combat which ultimately kind of brought the whole game to like a 6/10 for me.

I can't remember if I recommended Skyrim to you or not.

I put quite a few hours into it, but I never finished it. It didn't stick with me like Morrowind or Oblivion did.

Did you play the revised Royal Edition which allows you to select between Ignis, Gladio and Prompto? It's in the Ascension tree. Totally changes the flow and way you approach combat.

They all play vastly different and not like Noct cause they can't activate the Armiger or Warp/phase. Really fun. Ignis is a fast elemental hit and run striker, Gladio obviously is the tank and does massive damage and specializes with blocking and Prompto can use nades, an assault rifle and a bazooka plus take selfies in combat with one of his specials (besides Starshell) lol..

The only thing downside is you can't switch their secondaries so no manually casting magic or using their backup weapons. Would've been great to use Prompto as a debilitator with his machinery with Bioblaster or Noisemaker as they feel wasted on Noct.

I put 200 hours into Skyrim on the 360 so I've already done it all. Picked it up a few weeks back in a deep sale as I wanted to try the new next gen update and new content like fishing (which woefully sucks compared to FFXV or RDR2). Still enjoying it but took a break and never went back after I talked to the Jarl in Whiterun. I am sure once I gets some shouts I will be back in it. Fus Roh Dah!

I think you should try one. They are great. Dunno if FFVII Remake is the one to start with though as I never played it and it seems more like an action game then turn based which is what the series is known for. The titles prior to FFVI are awkward though (thinking Pixel Remasters) and haven't aged well though so YMMV.

I never did the shouts.

Initially played as a sneak archer, got bored, played as a mage, got bored, played as a warrior, got murked...

Just did quick levelling in Alchemy, Smithing and Enchanting on my last attempt, then broke the game with equipment of a shitton of Health, Magicka, Stamina and a massively overkill Bow.

Then I lost interest...

Yea I played that edition but I didn't change characters much. My main issue was really that I could never pull off a combo because I was constantly getting interrupted in large group battles. In 1 v 1 or 1 v 2 situations the game worked well with the dodging and attacks. I remember in one group battle I literally was just dodging the whole time because the monster's seemed to only be interested in attacking me.

I don't know maybe it was just a me issue. It was really my only issue with the game but obviously it's such a huge part of the game it kind of ruined a majority of it for me.

How long is GoTG? Although I stopped playing and picked it back up recently, it feels long as fuck. With that being said, I'm still enjoying it and the dialogue is phenomenal.

Not sure but I had a coworker who recommended I play it but also said it was really long. How long to beat has it at 17.5 hours for main story so doesn't seem so bad honestly.

I am about 12 hours into God of War Ragnarok, and while I am enjoying it a great deal, I still feel it was a tad overrated.

The combat, story, graphics and performance are all top notch, but the platforming is essentially just quick time events, its very linear both in progression and ways to solve puzzles, and the sidequests at least so far pale in comparison to its immediate predecessor.

I'd give it an 8.75 so far. I dont want it to sound like its a bad game but i was expecting a masterpiece and i dont think its at that level. The biggest gripe is the lack of player agency (one second Kratos can throw open thousand pound doors and the next he cant jump six feet, requiring instead a puzzle where you must freeze water to raise stone cubes you have to ride up). Its not a bad puzzle, but compared to something like Breath of the Wild, it was just annoying.

Another example is playing as Atreus and not being able to clime through a hole twice my size i blew in the wall, instead being forced to go around and fight additional enemies, only because there wasnt an "O" symbol above the hole.

Rant aside, I got it for about 35 bucks on ebay and really recccomend it at that price point. The combat is tough but fair, the characterizations are on point, and the lore is fascinating.

Just picked up The Quarry. Absolute tits! Only gripes I have are that 1) no save by chapter or milestones; something goes wrong, you gotta fix it on your next playthrough and 2) when cut scenes start, sometimes they skip like a record and the first few words of dialogue repeat but still syncs up with the animation fine.

Top voice/likeness cast. Cool and original story.

Tried out fear and hunger. That game is brutal and downright mean. I never played anything like this before.

Finally got 100% ‘chievos on RE 4 Remake. Dude… my favorite game ever. I really hope they release some type of DLC because I still haven’t had enough. Brought back a lot of nostalgia. Playing it made me get the RE: Village DLC too, so I could play through that campaign in 3rd person as well.

I picked Weird West back up since they released the Definitive Edition, and I’m glad I did. For anyone that only put a few hours in. They put out a new control scheme that is much easier aiming-wise than the original IMO. But the game starts really getting good come Act/Journey 2.

At the finale now, then starting Dead Space remake next.
