Darkest Dungeon
Gave it another go, after a bit of a debate in the DD2 thread. It's what I remember it as. It's good, but goddamn, is it ever a tedious grind. Just constant micro-management. It's also just plain cheap as fuck. That RNG is so stacked in the AI's favor, it's not even funny. If we're counting "misses", it's easily 7-1 in the AI's favor in any given fight. The fights just drag the fuck on because of that shit, and it just becomes a chore after a while.
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey
Still plugging away. 65 hours in. I want to say it's too big for it's own good, but I can't. I'm only like halfway through the campaign, and the map still has huge chunks of land not discovered, but I've never had the "Okay, that's enough" feeling. It's just so loaded with content, and always manages to throw you a curve ball when you're starting to get burned out. There's still so much to do and discover. Like, I didn't even know that this game had big ass boss fights, until I went on some random side mission to take down an actual Minotaur. This thing went on for hours. I started at a mission where some swindler was fooling people into fighting a fake Minotaur, which you complete and get a cool helmet from the fake one, but then it didn't stop, and branched out to a big mission where ended up fighting the actual Minotaur from Greek Mythology. It was so cool that they tucked this showcase boss away at the 50 hour mark. Then I fought a big ass cyclops a few hours after that...and there are more...and they're just optional bullshit. Love it.
This game is a 10/10, and is right up there with any other AAA western RPG. I could nitpick here and there about the combat being a bit weak and repetitive, or some mission design not being as fleshed out as I would like, but considering the scope of the overall package, it's not worth mentioning. This is an open world RPG bonanza. It's so good.
