What are you playing? v.9 (Kefka Edition)

Is a bad launch a death sentence for a new IP?

Yea I typically wait for games as well but every now and then I don't want to wait and grab it right away. I don't mind turn based being gone from FF only because I get so much turn based in other JRPGs I play. Seems like it's kind of making a comeback especially with these smaller indie titles.

I wanted to like FF15 so much and I did beat it but the combat was so bad. It pretty much ruined my experience with the game.
Yeah man indie devs are really the only thing that keeps some of the genres alive such as beat-em ups, 2D platformers, Metroidvanias, etc.

As for Final Fantasy 15? I really did like the story and visuals, but I legit defeated the final boss by holding down the attack button and doing nothing else. I was like "what the fuck is going on?" I had a blast playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake though.

Yea once I just held the dodge button and was dodging everything they threw at me it was dumb. FF7 Remake was a huge improvement. One of the few times in my life I beat a game and started it right back up and went through hard mode. I stopped at the final chapter but got very close to beating it two times in a row.

Yeah man -- as a big Final Fantasy guy, I was pretty skeptical, but damn I felt personally that Square Enix nailed it. The fan service was phenomenal. I got it included with my PS Plus subscription which was nice, as otherwise I probably wouldn't have played it as soon as I did.

$22.49 and it includes all 4 planned DLC's
Four? Thought three. Considering Team Ninja almost always bring their DLC A-game and will likely build out the five virtues + WPNs over the course of those expansions, that’s a fair to good deal. Might pick up too but need to content-plan a bit with how much stuffs is coming out from now to year’s end.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey

Creeping on 100 hours. Level 56. The burnout is creeping, though. I have no idea how close I am to the finish, as nothing has really signified that in the main quest. It is all getting to be a little much. I've still got at least four big land masses that are undiscovered, which I'm sure will be full of side quests, but I'm getting the itch to finish it off and move on. Is it too big for it's own good? No. It just isn't quite as deep as other WRPG's, to the point where you embrace the endlessness. For example, TW3 left me wanting more, and I was sad when it ended. Skyrim can be played until you're old and grey. With this, it's overstaying its welcome a bit, and it doesn't have that special something to keep it going long past it's expiration date. With some minor tweaks to it's loot and combat system, it could be right up there. There's still something missing. I could restart those other games at any time and have it feel fresh. With this, I have absolutely no desire to replay it. It has a finish line.

That said, it's still a hell of a game, and the absolute best game I've played in quite some time.

Tears of The Kingdom has me with bloodshot eyes. The stuff you can do is insane. I'm almost done with what I would consider an impressive exploration/collection level, and I look forward to seeing how other people did things a little differently.

Just finished 100%ing Marvel Midnight Suns. Very surprised by this game. I’m not really a MCU fan but I can enjoy a hero game here and there. This game is leaps and bounds better than The Avengers. If you like Marvel, tactical RPGs, or card games, definitely check it out.

Now trying to decide between Disco Elysium or Divinity: OS 1 til a week or so after Diablo 4 drops.

Tears of the Kingdom. Why aren’t you?
I want too, but I don’t own a Switch, and I don’t want to buy the OLED upgrade. Rumors Nintendo will be dropping their next console around the holidays or early next year. Then I’ll likely pick one up. Haven’t bought a Nintendo since Wi U.

I finished 40K Boltgun. Was great fun and a good entry into the genre. Sometimes the level design was frustrating, trying find switches and doors, and the Chainsword felt pretty redundant and useless after the first few levels. But everything else was very satisfying

I've been playing Subnautica, and while I can see it's a polished game with a lot going for it, I find the resource gathering and management to be really tiresome. After the novelty of the visuals wears off, it's a chore to go and collect stuff. I'm at the point where I built my first room and the Seamoth submarine, but then I look at what to build next and all the different resources I need and I can't be arsed at all

I jumped into 7 Days to Die again although there is a new Alpha being released in the near future. I'm playing with the War of the Walkers mod and having a blast. Maybe my best time with the game was back in Alpha 16 playing War of the Walkers, and for some reason I've slept on that mod until now in the last days on Alpha 20. It's the opposite of Subnautica where resource gathering and looting is so good and so rewarding

My next games are Guardians of the Galaxy (I haven't even seen the films but I heard the game is brilliant) and also Cyberpunk 2077 (I preordered this back in the day but didn't even bother playing it after hearing the initial reactions. But I hear it is in a much better place now so gonna dip in for the first time)

Pretty much my opinion on every survival/crafting game.

Any Super Mega Baseball fans?

Yes, but boy do I suck now. It's one of those games where you can't take a break. I used to be able to cruise at "ego 99" on SMB2, and do pretty damn good online. Now, I have to turn it down to 65, and I get fucking crushed online. The timing is so precise, down to milliseconds. I See SMB4 is basically ready to go, so I'll be hopping on there eventually.

Underrated feature: Customization. It's the "Fire Pro Wrestling" of baseball games. I had this team in SMB2 called "The Serial Killers" made up of real life serial killers, with probably the best logo I've ever created, and the character customization was just good enough, that all the players looked pretty damn similar to their real life counterparts. I'd always have PM's commenting it. I think my favorite one was "Are you the Zodiak killer? Holy fuck! LOL! The sunglasses on Richard Ramirez...*chef's kiss*"

I am playing this old game called Tyranny.

Do you mean the game from Obsidian? I wouldn’t call it “old” per se, it’s only like six years old. I’ve got it in my backlog and haven’t played it yet. My backlog goes so far back I don’t really call a game old unless it’s like 15+ years old, if not even older.

It feels and looks dated. I love this genre of games though.

Tapped out of Diablo 4. After about 10 hours I realized I don't have the energy/time/desire to button mash my way through this. Enemy scaling was the final nail in the coffin.
