What are you playing? v.9 (Kefka Edition)

Is a bad launch a death sentence for a new IP?

That happened to me as well, first few hours I wasn't enjoying it at all then it just seemed to click.

A worthy addition to the metroidvania genre.

The first three zones are a bit of a trial by fire. Especially if you make a wrong turn(which is easy to do, since the game doesn't tell you shit). Once they're out of the way, the game comes together nicely. Back when it first hit, I remember a lot of people quitting because they zigged when they should've zagged, and ended up venturing into the snow level first, when they're totally unprepared for it.

Super Mario Odyssey

Only really play my Switch on vacation so it's taken me forever to play through this. Didn't expect an awesome Dark Souls like dragon fight in this game lol. It's a great little time sink for the plane but I can't imagine playing this at home on the tv. Yes I realize it's for kids.

Started Final Fantasy VIII Remastered and the graphics upgrade is pretty cool. Squall definitely is "the best looking guy here" now.

But for real though the draw grind is a chore. Thank god for the x3 speed boost option. Working on the Card refinement ability so I don't have to draw as much magic and can focus on going through the campaign.

Currently playing:

Nier Replicant - fucking masterpiece. I'm surprised it didn't get as much hype as Nier Automata.

Lost Odyssey - Another JRPG top tier game that didn't get the attention it deserves due to it releasing on a JRPG-averse console.

You played LO before? It was Final Fantasy XIII for me. How far are you into it? You cry yet?

Been playing the hell out of Gran Turismo 7. Got it on GameFly just to check it out on VR, and now I can't put it down. VR is great, but only play with the headset a little here and there since my eyes get really strained after a bit.

Just unlocked the WTC 700 championship circuit, so looking g forward to giving that a go on my next session. Struggled to place well in a few of the races leading up with the PP ceilings. The Nissan races had a 700 cap and I only had 1 car that even met the requirements. Been dumping all my funds into other race requirements, so never dumped any money into the Nissan Skyline I had in my garage that I had been gifted, but it was on my list to tune up.

Tuned it up to like 699.45 and thought it would be in for some back and forth, because the previous races with a 600 PP limit where I was sitting at 599 were a scrap. I absolutely blew the doors off the competition like they weren't moving and there was a huge gap at the end of the race. These were just the single races though so expecting the WTC 700 cup to be a bit more competitive.

I also cleared all of the licenses except for the last test for the super license. It's absolutely insane I can barely get out of the first turn. Trying to race a super car on wet asphalt is nuts. Breaking way down to take the first turn took more tries than I care to mention, but coming out of the turn and hitting the gas has you spinning out of control. It took me like 20 tries of breaking and feathering the gas just to get out of the first turn, only to go off the track 50ft down the road. Not sure how I'm going comete a whole lap without going off the track.

Yeah the GT700 and 800 races are a little more competitive, took me a while tinkering with different cars and setups

Finished up Trails into Reverie this past weekend. Beat the game on nightmare which was rough at first but once the game gave me all the combat options it got much easier. Got the nightmare trophy so was happy about that. After that I dropped it to very easy to complete the post game content. Going for the plat and it's going to take me a while to do. I have to win 1500 battles and I'm a little over 500. There's more stuff I have to do but that 1500 battles is going to be a grind. I'll just use my deck to slowly do it at work. Not really in the mood to jump into anything else anyways so I'll just slowly work my way to the plat.

Went back and played through 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 remasters last year. The nostalgia was great. The 3x speed makes it much better.

Gonna do it again in after 10 more years from now haha.

Just finished up my time with Callisto Protocol. Played through a new game + to finish on the hardest difficulty for the achievements. I really enjoyed this game, it’s more than just a Dead Space clone. The combat was meh at first, but it grew on me.

I scored the Series X version for $15 and it was well worth it. If you like survival horror and can find it cheap I recommend it.

Is Dying Light hard as fuck or do I just suck at the game?

Everyone says FromSoft makes the hardest games.. I can't even get past the very first night time zombies in Dying Light on easy mode. This is basically the damn tutorial I'm stuck in..

FromSoft is a cakewalk compared to Dying Light

Anyone playing Quake 2?

I'm also curious about this.

It was my first multiplayer PC game that I played the hell out of as a kid. MSN GameZone lobbies, playing The Edge mostly, plus custom made platforming maps, with hundreds of character skins (often nude women). One expansion added new weapons, so I used an Angel of Death, ice version, to freeze my friends and used mace on them, which completely blacked out their screen, menu and all. I got chickenpox, and played through the entire campaign on co-op with a friend in a single day.

Can't shake the feeling that an Xbox version will be disappointing. A big part of Quake 2 was the community and the modding, and I've been unimpressed with the community and the matchmaking system on console.

I am. Have been loving it.

It’s cross play by default. Almost everyone playing is on PC. I’m playing on PS5 and when I’m playing deathmatch online I’ll typically be the only person in any game playing that’s not on PC. It’s been the same with the Quake 1 remaster for the past two years.

Ah, might be worth a Game Pass download.

Cheers.

It's pretty rough for the first five or six hours. Even the most basic zombies can be a headache. Get used to running. It does eventually start to balance out, though. Stick with it.

Yea it can be rough in the first few hours.

Dark Souls Remastered

Done. Never thought I'd actually finish one of these games lol. Fantastic game. Not sure I have much of a desire to play the other ones anytime soon though. Kind of thought the DLC sucked.

Still playing GT7 and think I'm about done with my run. Finished up the World GT Series Championship.

It's wired that the next challenge from the Cafe is the Lightweight K-cup races with a 400pp cap. You get this point with progressively faster and more powerful cars, then they dump you into essentially a go cart race. I had to look up what cars would even qualify since I didn't have any in my collection. Found a car and tried to tune it up to the ceiling. Played around with ballast and power to get it below the line. Started the race and I'm climbing out of my screen from how slow the cars are going. Not sure how to beat these races. I feel like I'm on the throttle the entire race but the lead cars have such a lead I can't catch them. I just quit in disgust.

Think I'll come back to this challenge since there is a supped up Daihatsu I think I can detune, but not looking to drop a mil to buy a glorified go cart.
