Is a bad launch a death sentence for a new IP?

I ordered Assassin Creed Origins and Oddessey. Never played Assassins Creed.

I got Origins delivered today. Brand new sealed game. I opened it up and there's no Assassins Creed game. It's Ghost Recon which I'm currently playing.

I know this Ghost Recon is a good game so I didn't go with the return and refund.
The AC games are great. I would recommend starting with 2 or Black Flag

I completed Serious Sam Siberian Mayhem. It was a fun 6 hours. I really love the OG Serious Sam and I still think it's the best of the series. The follow up games have been kinda disappointing to me, but this one was pretty decent and serves up some spectacular, relentless battles against hundreds and hundreds of enemies. Some situations are pretty cheap in terms of difficulty and there are some really irritating baddies, but it gives you some really effective weapons and plenty of ammo. Plus some fun gadgets you can use like calling down huge artillery barrages or a laser firing hoverboard. Also has lots of vehicles sequences, including a big chainsaw swinging mech. Often it's a vast and open landscape which is fine when it's throwing huge waves of enemies at you, but kind of irritating in terms of looking for secrets and extra content (Which is does definitely have, usually there's like 30 secrets per chapter and I did find some optional side missions and secret boss fights). I pretty much just stuck to the main objectives while in more compact games I'd have combed through the maps.

Gonna replace it with Halo Master Chief Collection. I've only ever played the first game on PC way back in the day and didn't think it was all that, but I hear the other Halo games were really good so looking forward to trying them out
Downloaded Siberian Mayhem and will get to it eventually haha. I actually had fun with the previous release.

Dude, Halo series is in my top all time favorites, though 343 gets a lot of hate. They did a great job with the MC Collection. Halo CE brings the nostalgia, but 2, 3, and Reach are my favorites from the series. The whole collection is good.

I have been playing Halo CE to start with. It was kind of brutal at first with how slow paced and dated it is, no sprinting, slow reloads etc... but I'm getting used to it and having fun. Pretty eager to get through it so I can try the later games

Me too. Hopefully a return to its roots. I'm getting sick k of these games that are 50 hours+ to finish.
As someone who’s a fan of both styles of AC. I am glad they are making both a return to form game and an open world one. Franchise is so popular they’re gonna keep churning them out. Hopefully that doesn’t affect the quality.

Aren't there like 4 or 5 coming out soon?

Started Metroid Dredd for Switch, I forgot how much I loved the series. I never played the Prime Games so I’m gonna get the remastered Seitch version next.

Couple of games I recently finished.

1) AC Valhalla. Took me a long long time to complete. The game is excessively wide, but not enough deep.
Liked:
- reduced amounts of weapon/gear collecting
- graphically beautiful
- combat nice and bloody violent
- Viking setting
- having a home camp

Disliked:
- couldn't care for any of the characters and plot
- got overpowered through side quests excessively
- raids and a lot of main missions were repetitive
- killing of the Order of the Ancients is dumb as they are mostly NPCs and don't even fight
- could use a lot more interesting boss fights, animal fights than a lot of the filler there like shitty side story missions and rock stacking

Overall: 7.1 out of 10. I got a lot of entertainment hours out of it, but it kind of feels like a chore too much of hte time. Good not great. After playing all of AC Origins / Odyssey / Valhalla I feel exhausted of it and don't think I could do another.

2) Control: Ultimate Edition
Got it on the cheap on a friend's recommendation saying it's a good example of what new video cards can do with respect to ray tracing etc.

Liked:
- great graphics and atmosphere
- astral maze is a very memorable video gaming moment of any game I've ever played
- base combat mechanics and no overkill with weapons varieties / upgrades and abilities
- pretty punchy, it doesn't overstay it's welcome with too much boring shit to do

Disliked:
- got bored of the story pretty quick, too many of the characters are bizarre dolts
- some bosses difficulty spikes kind of turn the game into Bloodborne with quick deaths
- environment could have used more variety
- sometimes some pathways / way to go are a bit too hidden and the map is tricky because of the verticality of the environments
- there are some missions/parts where you find stuff and it is very VERY tedious and stuff is really hidden so you just get stuck over useless stuff so googling the answers on the net is too attractive an option

Overall: 7.8 out of 10.

I'm now onto Days Gone. One hour in, runs beautifully - hasn't gotten the greatest of reviews overall but I'm feeling optimistic I'll like it, but so far it's got a major pet peeve of mine where when on foot and shooting I want to do keyboard and mouse due to its accuracy, but when on the motorcycle I want to use a gamepad because steering the bike is better with joypad instead of keyboard. Reminds me of the GTA series that way.

Been busy with Remnant 2 and kind of lost track of other releases. Just got an email today that GameFly shipped me Atlus Fallen. Totally forgot about this and Lords of the Fallen coming.

Decided to take a break from D4 until new content comes out. Downloading Path of Exile so hopefully that keeps me busy until Armored Core comes out.

Currently playing:

Nier Replicant - fucking masterpiece. I'm surprised it didn't get as much hype as Nier Automata.

Lost Odyssey - Another JRPG top tier game that didn't get the attention it deserves due to it releasing on a JRPG-averse console.

I'm playing Sekiro and I'm trying real hard to like this game. It's just not hooking me in right now. I've spent more time with the game paused and looking for other things to do than actually playing the game. I've killed like 10 guys.

It's an acquired taste. It tapped me out with it's rather masochistic gameplay, but others swear it's one of the greatest games of all time. You'll likely fit into one of those two categories.

Fallout 4

Well, I had to put it down a while ago because it was making me nervous about it killing my system. Late game, that thing crashed every two hours, and one time it shut my system down, and that was that. Enter the Cloud. Having getting my Fallout on with FONV and FO76 recently, it just made me want to play FO4. So I did. Started a brand new game on the Cloud, thinking it was only gonna be the base game. Nope. It recognized my GOTY edition, and all the DLC is there. Awesome.

Now I'm balls deep into this shit again, and I think it's one of the best games ever made(technical issues aside). Initially, I didn't care for the crafting aspect and thought it was a cheap addition to the tried and true formula, but I don't think I can go without it now. There's a steep ass learning curve to it all, but once you get it, it's scavenge, scavenge, scavenge, build, build, build, and every little little stitch of this ridiculously huge game, comes together beautifully. And it's just a nice little game within the game.

Like most, think I initially did this game dirty. It just didn't completely click for whatever reason. Playing it now, having figured it all out, it's amazing, and dare I say, GROSSLY underrated. Think my ratings go something like this:

Initial rating - 6/10
Second chance - 8/10
Third look - 10/10

This is a "forever" game. It's a shame that it's still a bit wonky from a technical standpoint(still crashes in the friggin' Cloud), but it's so damn good when it all comes together, and every gameplay element is just complimenting each other to no end. It's so damn good.

Have to say, Hi Fi Rush is one of the best rhythm games I’ve ever played. Controls are tight, combat is fun, encourages you to switch up your combos and experiment, the art direction is beautiful, worlds are lively, writings and voice performances are actually quality. Really glad I decided to pick this one up. Recommend giving it a shot, I got it on sale through Steam but it’s also on Game Pass.

Dark Souls Remastered

I think I've killed every boss except Gwyn so I started the DLC. How in the holy name of hell was anyone supposed to figure out how to find the entrance to the DLC without a guide? I get the game is supposed to be cryptic and I think I've been doing pretty good about not using guides but my God I wouldn't ever have figured that out.

Mother of fuck. While on my JRPG binge, I got into Naraka Bladepoint and got addicted to it quickly. As a Dark Souls / For Honor fan, who enjoys complex and skill based melee games, I'm having a blast with this one. I'm dominating the newb tier, as a newb, and crushing some people with expensive looking skins that look like theyve been playing it for a while.

I needed a break from Like a Dragon, I've moved onto something a bit different. Anyone here play The Sinking City?? Any tips for me?
