17 dead at around 650 confirmed cases as of today. Most of the dead are people with weakened immune systems. Some reported nothing more than mild flu symptoms and the first batch has already been released from hospital.

It can have a 1% fatality rate, but if it is airborne, it will spread like wildfire, and 1% of 2 billion infected, is 20 million dead.

We have heard it is spreading human to human, but we haven't heard if it needs contact, or is airborne.

If it is contact, they have a chance to contain it. If it is airborne this will become the biggest story in decades.

My in-laws are from China, mother in law from Hong Kong , father in-law from the main land , lots of family from both , my father in law is no fan of the Chinese government but to call the entire country a hell hole is just ignorant.

My wife teaches at a not for profit international school ( one of the United world colleges ) and has taught Chinese students from all economic backgrounds , we were house parents for years and got to live with some of these kids so I have a much better picture of what life is like in China than you could ever hope to have .

But I'm sure you won't let facts get in the way of your hate.

Why is it always China?

India has a population almost as big, and they have worse conditions. Less land, much poorer people and more of them, far more crowded, less clean etcc.. but all these outbreaks are from China or close by regions.
I used to think it was them keeping ducks and pigs together, but doesn't India also keep lots of farmyard animals next to each other?

One of the reasons these viruses don't get global pandemic plague type numbers is that they are never airborne. This one is a mutation and is much more easily spread via contact. If this Coronavirus (SARS/MERS etc.) continues down this path, over time, it will eventually be airborne, and then we are fucked.
