I feel like Trump had it under control until JD got caught up on arguing with Zelensky over some meaningless details, which prompted Trump to try to back him up.

Previously I felt like JD would be a calming influence, but it seems like he's stuck in campaign mode and trying to set up a 2028 run for himself by appealing to Trump's base. It's actually Trump who has settled more into the role of a statesman rather than a campaigning politician, maybe because he feels no pressure about upcoming elections anymore.

JD's inexperience showed here in my opinion, the main objective there was to get Zelensky to walk out of there with his name signed on that paper, you can worry about him being thankful enough, or wearing a suit, or forcing people to fight against their will, at a later date.

Migrants just aren't interfacing with border agents anymore and are back to the old ways of just sneaking in. Encounters are down on paper because prior to the Trump admin migrants were seeking out border patrol and other law enforcement agents to turn themselves in and submit to the asylum process. That's how we were able to count them.

Now they're just sneaking in and no accounting of them is being done at all.

I mean both can be true at the same time. Overall numbers could be down, but not by 95% like they're trying to claim just on encounter figures. Yet the number of unaccounted for successful illegal entries are up because why wouldn't they be when the process for willfully encountering law enforcement has basically been abandoned by the current administration.

I think that has more to do with the fact that the aid comes in different forms and was disbursed at different times. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of it has yet to be disbursed.
