What a fight. Garry vs Shavkhat. Probably 100x more entertaining than the belal fight, which is only relevant because he holds the belt.

What a way to end the year.

I don't like Garry but kid earned the shot. He even fought below the rankings in his last one.

Ian is tricky, long and know how to wins fights. This is not a walk in the park for Shavkat.

Anyways.. hopefully Rakhmonov goes full Ghenghis Khan on this budget McGregor.

I think it’s competitive on the feet the first two rounds as Garry is good at stick and move, but I think what inevitably happens is they end up in a clinch against the cage where shavkhat sweeps Garry (he does that often) and once the grappling starts is when Garry will be in trouble. Shavkhat is very strong and once he puts the choke in it’s basically done at that point.

So did Garry. The difference is Neal is a lot more physically athletic and strong so he also was better at staving off the clinch striking and grappling than Garry will be. Garry has looked pretty sus vs far worse than Neal too though. We will see, suspect Shav will be like -250 here, I'd rather they not pit prospects against each other but I don't think Garry is legit anyways.

Glad they didn’t slap a pointless interim belt on it. We need to go back to #1 contender fights with no belts, it just devalues them. Should only be used rarely when the champion will have an extended absence.

Rakhmonov management are idiots for agreeing to this, he was offered a main event title fight, he got a new opponent and neither of those things, if im Rakhmonov i dont fight on UFC 310 unless a belt is on the line, they are fighting for money...belt = money.

I was mostly just responding to the idea that it will be easy for Rakhmonov.

Understandable. Garry doesn’t suck that’s for sure. But this should be shavkhat fight to lose. I just think once the grappling starts Garry is going to be in trouble. If I was a fan of Garry (which I’m not) I would hope he is on his bike the whole fight.

I’m no massive Garry fan but the guy deserves more respect. He’s one of the few in the division who really doesn’t care who he fights. A lot of guys said they would step in but in the end it’s Garry that’s stepping up.

I'm glad the UFC didn't make an interim title. This would by far be the most egregious interim title the UFC have ever done. Yes there was the Gane/Ngannou situation, but Ngannou was in a contract dispute with the UFC and they weren't sure if or when he would defend the heavyweight title.

I think Garry is an insanely overrated fraud that has been lucky to get to this point. Who has he beaten? Geoff Neil who was overrated himself and never actually that good? The corpse of Neil Magny? He couldn't even strike with MVP who is the best of his 3 recent wins but probably a top 10 gatekeeper at best. And he had to beat MVP with takedowns that won't work against Shavkat.

If Garry beats Shavkat I will be wrong, though. But I think Garry has run out of luck. Shavkat will keep this fight standing and expose Garry's very mediocre striking.

Fair point about the money, he probably, i hope, negotiated a fair pay for this, but the fair thing was an interim belt, going from headlining to co-main would be unaceptable if im him, i would wait for the champion instead.

If you are a fighter that gets scheduled to headline a PPV for a title, thats the replacement fight you take, main event interim title, its that or you wait some more for the champ to be ready, most guys get their unification fight, specially since the UFC doesnt seem thrilled with Belal.
