People get really pissy about this for some reason.
>He was on a 4 fight win streak and got into the rankings beating #15, who was fighting down because he was off a loss.
>He was at 13 in the rankings fighting #11 Magny. Magny was off one win over an unranked guy
>He was at 10 fighting #8, who was fighting down because he was off a loss.
>Then Garry, on a 14 fight win streak, unbeaten at 7 wins in the UFC and ranked #7, fought #15 MVP.
The guy's upward movement was all sensible, extremely incremental, against people who were barely above him and on backwards momentum themselves, then he reaches WAY back in the rankings to fight someone, and everyone's still like "Ooh, fuck this guy for not fighting backwards."
Why should he right now?
To be fair to him taking this fight though, Edwards only just lost the belt, so let's see how he stays in the mix, but Usman and Covington are both squatters going backwards. Then an injured JDM and his only choices are slotted-for-a-title Shavkat, and Brady.
Buckley is up with them there in that big streaking bunch, so best to eliminate whichever you can
