In August, he said: "What I'm hoping is by the start of October I can start sparring again, and then fight at the end of the year." And then he started, in the past month, angling for a fight with Usman in Australia.

Doesn't sound like a guy we should doubt until he says straight up that he can't fight. Until we hear he can't, any votes for anyone else are foolish

Yea but I want JDM vs Shavkat for the real belt. He's the only fighter I see as a threat to Shavkat currently.

I respect Buckley for angling, but he’s gotta be real with it and know he needs a top 10 win before he deserves a top 5 fight, let alone what amounts to basically an interim title fight.

Yeah.. but Shavkat beat Neal who was ranked at the time too. Wonderboy was pretty much a step back because nobody wanted to fight him.

Buckly has a lot of upside... feed him Usman IMO.

Fair point, just Shavkhat did it first a year earlier when it meant slightly more.

I still think Shavkhat should have to have gotten a top 5 win but the problem is the rank-squatting/ducking going on in so many divisions:

• Belal just beat Leon (who had just beaten rank-squatter Colby)
• Usman moved up to fight Khamzhat and lost a close fight (lost 2 in a row to Leon)
• JDM almost lost to a semi-washed Burns, then got an arm injury so couldn't fight
• Brady beat washed Gastelum and then semi-washed Burns
• Colby lost to Leon (only beat washed/retired Masvidal a year prior)
• Garry squeaked by #14 MvP, an almost 40 Bellator Kickboxer
• Burns 2-4 in last 6, 3 fight losing streak, only beat Mas in retirement fight + Neil Magny

Buckley is definitely underrated, even if I don't like him, the log-jam in the division from these guys never giving new blood any chances and just fighting each other in a round-robin endlessly means we never get to see who is actually the best.

But just using my eyes to watch him fight Shavkhat is the most well-rounded, has the most talent, is the most dangerous, and puts on the best fights 18-0, all finishes.

I wouldn't hate making Garry vs. Buckley and just giving the winner a title shot, skip over Leon/Usman/JDM/Brady/Colby - arguably JDM and Shavkhat deserve it based on their styles and performances, with Shavkhat having the edge in my opinion.

We need some new blood in the top of the division, these rank squatters gotta go.

JDM is supposed to be injured, if he's available he takes 1st choice. However if he's out then I'd rather see Buckley. He KO'd Wonderboy and I put that over barely edging a grappling win over MVP. Buckley is ready for top 5 now. Fuck rewarding Garry, give him Sean Brady since he likes wrestling so much.
