The Stipe beaten by Ngannou was a broken old man with no knees and no hope of winning an MMA fight against a vaguely competent and not similarly broken fighter, just like the Stipe beaten by Jones. He's the Stipe who barely beat a 40 year old wrestler coming off of back surgery who moved like a beached whale while allowing the wrestling beached whale to shatter the record for most significant strikes landed in any UFC heavyweight fight (in under four rounds!).

The Stipe coming off the Cormier trilogy was a geriatric mess who never should have had a fight sanctioned. Title aside, he was every bit as useless an opponent for Ngannou as he was for Jones.
 
Calling it, last act by Jones:

'Agree' to a fight date, have Tom train for another few months, then pull out with an 'injury' and retire.
 
Calling it now, it's Jones. I know he said Jon is retired, but Jon's sudden shift on this topic has me feeling like we're close to an announcement.

It took a long time, I would have made this decision a few months ago according to the thread I created.

What would be the ideal waiting period for Aspinall now?

In my opinion, 3 months to have a contract signed and 6 months for unification (with a guaranteed reserve fighter).

If Jones refuses within 3 months, the title will be stripped.

If he withdraws from the fight twice, the title will also be stripped.

It would be great if this was all just bullshit back and forth will they wont they games in media but behind scenes the shits done and UFC is waiting to announce during int fight week with a big surprise press conference.

Tom's under contract and had no say. He's been saying that he wanted to fight anyone else for a while now.

Lol no. The Stipe Ngannou beat was 38 and had fought within the last 6 months. The Stipe Jones fought was 42 and essentially called up from retirement, as he hadn't fought at all the previous 3+ years.

Historical revisionism doesn't fly around these parts.
