Stroke my Ego, watch me compete soon.

I was just wondering why you don't do squats. Leg press combined with leg extensions still won't tax you as much, or give you as much transferable strength as squats would.

Lifted just now:

DB Incline- 90x1 70x7x7,4 55x12,6 rest pause
Deadlift-40x3,1 365x3 Deadstop 315x4x5 touch/go
Machine Row- 185x3x8
Power Shrug-425x2x12
Leg Extension-260x3x10
Calf-130x3x10

Was too lazy to hit 335x20 so I jumped to 405 and hit that a few times, then felt bad so I busted out 315x20 anyways. Felt light. As usaul the worksets were deadstops, but on 315 I went touch and go, didn't bounce it though.

Power shrugs were real light, 455 next time, then I predict back to 495.
Leg Extensions- I fell in love with them for some reason.

DB Incline was a new PR, never hit 90 until today. I may go stale on inclines/flat soon so I will see how the next 2-3 workouts go, might have to switch it up. Probably going to do a week or two of speed and volume and give the heavy a rest.

BJJ followed by Thai tonight.
Off to work.

I was just wondering why you don't do squats. Leg press combined with leg extensions still won't tax you as much, or give you as much transferable strength as squats would.

The first part you said, exactly.

It won't tax me as much. If I was just lifting I would be squatting no doubt about it. However with the additional skill work, conditioning, sparring, etc, I just can't recover quick enough if I squat and deadlift.

I tried for months, and whenever I add in squats my squat increases a bit and my deadlift goes stale. My body is too sore all the time to put good effort into conditioning and sparring. I'd rather deadlift and use leg press as a replacement. For raw strength it is not the best, but for my goals it seems to work out better.

So the end result is that by doing leg press/ leg extensions or whatever to replace squats, I do get more power as I can keep working and lifting hard. I still get stronger. Not so when I squat as I said due to the other work I'm doing.

Gi BJJ tonight:
sparred from the single leg postition. When I had the leg I made use of switching to double or back to single and finished with a foot sweep mostly.
When I was defending I pushed the head down to make space, cross face, then mule kick out. or push the head to the outside and countershoot.

Drilled attacks from back mount (armbar and gi choke setups) followed by some sparring from knees. Nothing intense as I was in a group of 3 and one of the guys was semi new. Gi sucks, I need to go more often.

Thai was straight power pad work, happy to say I kept a high workrate and pounded the shit out of those pads with a vengeance.

Unfortunately I screwed up my shoulder in the last 30 seconds of the last round, made holding pads a bitch when I held.

Hopefully its gone by tomorrow. Its the rear delt, maybe rotator cuff, and I feel pain when putting my arm behind my back.
Meh.

Wed night did rounds of boxing sparring. Left hand was dropping a bit due to the rear delt discomfort but it feels much better, just a muscle ache/spasm/whatever.

Thurs night rolled no gi.

Just got back from the gym, lifted:

DB Bench- 95x8,8,5 60x22,9
Leg Press-600x3x10
Pullup-80x5,4,4 45x3x6
Leg Ext- 245x3x12 Speed
Front Raise- 35x2x12

Too lazy to go indepth much about the sessions.

So I got sick and then found out I was not fighting due to lack of an opponent. So I MAY have gotten really drunk on Friday and ruined my whole weekend.

Sunday morning I get a call and I have an opponent now, great.

So I got my last lifting session in before the fight tonight:

DB Bench- 90x12,8,6
Deadlift-405x10 singles
Machine Row- 200x3x5 150x3x10
Leg Ext- 275x3x10

Shortened but hit the important things. Skipped Power Shrugs as my back was iffy from deads.

My strength is still climbing as I gained on everything this workout as I keep doing, even given that shitty weekend.

Mon night is BJJ and Thai, Tues will be conditioning morning then bag work at night, then scenario work on Wed/Thurs before/after work along with plenty of rest and food those last 2 days.

My opponent is only 1-0 but hey he wants to fight and is 10lbs heavier than me. He is a good wrestler with a KO win, I won't underestimate him though as he seems dangerous.

I'm pretty sure he is fresh out of HS wrestling from a strong team and is now training at the MFSNY school (Miletich NY), so yeah, fun time!!

Good luck, Joe

WHy thank you sir, fought a few hours ago, round 1 win by armbar.

So now I'm.....7-3, I like that, much better than 6-3.

Well I wanted to keep it boxing as I wanted that to come out more experience wise in my fights but he bull rushed for the double unders.

So I jacked on an overhook and jump guard once I feel him going for the throw, and bam, armbar is being setup on the way down.

Stayed tight and kept the guard high and active to avoid strikes as always.
Back to training!

Lifted today:

DB Incline- 70x10,10,7 50x15,10
Leg Press-630x10,7,6
Weighted Pullup- 90x3x3 45x2x10
Leg Extension- 260x3x10

Didn't go to crazy as I fought last night obviously, but still up on all lifts.

Tomorrow is bagwork/conditioning, then Mon I'm back to a normal schedule of training.

Good work slick armbar, impressive.

Thanks guys, more to come I hope, it was a fun night.

Anyway today is snowing like crazy for some reason and no work, BJJ/kickboxing at Vamos will probably be cancelled, so looks like I'm lifting in a bit then conditioning tonight.
BRB...getting freaky strong and fillin up ma gas tank...

Did all isolations this morning lifting wise:
Leg Curl- 130x4x10
Preacher- 90x10,8,7
Adductor-190x3x10
Abductor-160x3x10
Tri Ext-80x15,10,6
Front Riase-35x15, 40x10, 30x15
Lateral Raise-30x10,6 25x10

Later did a few rounds of sparring with Joe Funaro which I will post soon, so no need to write about that as you can just see it in a bit.

Finished with 100 bupees and 100 kettlebell swings with a 30lber, it will have to do until we get bigger one. 100 burpees in 10 minutes. Next time it will be done in 9 minutes, damn even 9 minutes is long but it'll get down there.

Quest4Glory and MeanGene44103, thank guys, its like my legs go on autopilot and just molest the hell out of their bodies looking for the sub.
It's weird, like they hava mind of their own.

4x3 rounds intervals with heavy bag combos or mittwork with our boxing coach.
3x3 minute rounds of:

1 minute med ball situps: slam ball against wall hard enough for it to bounce back when you sit up
1 minute med ball situps: throw overhead and catch at top of situp
1 minute side2sides.

Nice win! Not sure what I enjoyed more the fight or the Message to my Future Kids..lol.

Niiiice armbar. How'd that initial slam feel?
