If he does leave for LW then he needs to start at the bottom of the top 10. One title defense does not make one deserving of a shot up to the top of the division IMO. Max and Alex had long runs at FW before getting a shot at the top of the LW division. Simply beating them isn't LW title shot worthy and Topuria isn't Conor McGregor of old.

he's not going to start from the bottom of the top 10. he just knocked out the guy who is ranked #5 at LW, and that guy had just KO'd the guy who was #1 contender at LW.

Both Evoloev and Ankalaev are close to title shot, but it's hard when they have such sub par performances. Topuria beating Max and Volk back to back was basically the best top 2 in any division. Same with Alex, Jiri 2x/Hill are much more of a threat than Ank.

I was thinking this as well, plus if champions want to vacate the belt to move to another weight class, then I see no issue with it, same as if they only want to stick to their weight class and not test other ones.

lol fuck off. Who has he avoided? Ank turned down the fight previously and will likely be his next opponent. He fought Jan who is the next best grappler at LHW. Before Rountree his previous 7 fights were all against people that have been champions in the past 3 years. His strength of schedule is probably the highest in the ufc in the past few years.

There’s not a crop of elite grapplers in the rankings at LHW. There’s Ank and Jan (who Alex already beat).

People always say this, but who were all these amazing grapplers that he was supposed to face?

There were some decent ones at MW like Dolidze and maybe Hermanson, but at LHW, there's fuck all. There was only really like Krylov and that's it.

Look at the top 10 at LHW now. They're all mainly strikers. For decent grapplers you have Nikita, who hasn't fought since march last year. Jan, who would rather strike, and who Alex already fought. And Ank, who prefers to strike as well.
