Sean Brady vs Leon Edwards, why no hype?

I always thought he sucked, no offense. I don't know, his hype when he was a champ was almost Rousey-esque. To me anyways.

I don't think Lawler was on his peak form when he fought Woodley. But I also never rated Lawler much personally. Really, I never ever thought he was much. He couldn't beat Jake Shields in his absolute prime either.

I guess he did kinda hold his own against Wonderboy, I will give him that though.

I'm not trying to shit on the guy though, nor only when he is past his peak. I was singing the same tune at the peak of his powers so to speak.
Woodley was kind of mid when he was coming up and his striking needed work, he got famously combo blasted by Marquardt back before. Then he entered his prime and I think in those couple years he was alot better than people gave him credit for. Unfortunately his prime came late and age took over and he would just freeze like Rashad did later in his career with no output. Not my favorite fighter but to me its bizarre how much hate he gets. I think it's because he lost to Jake Paul 2x, but dude was just collecting money while he can.

Well Snoozeman vs Leon Scott, I mean it's pretty close lol. I know Usman did display some power here and there, but the lack of love Usman used to get around here wasn't much better than Leon's lol.

To be fair to Leon, if he actually didn't get ragdolled by Belal, and had some finishes and defense, people might have turned around kinda like they did for Usman when he was a champ.

Neither weren't really most exciting fighters around to say the least during their run lol.
To me Usman was boring as fuck before he got the title, he's one of the few guys I know who got exciting after he became champ. He probably started losing his wrestling because his knees and leaned into his KO power and striking. Most champs turn into point machines. Usman still had a few boring fights as champ, Masvidal 1 and Leon 1 2. Usman probably would've been ragdolled by Belal, but that would've been interesting to see, atleast more than Leon to me.

Lots of boring fighters on top of WW right now, Brady, Belal, Leon, Garry. Guys who seem to score points. Hope Shavkat's last fight doesn't indicate his future because he'll join that list of names.

It's impossible though, I remember vividly how disturbing his hype was. It was almost Rousey-esque. I don't think it's factually true that he was a lot better than people gave him credit for cuz he was getting tons. He was freezing right in the middle of his prime too. I think he always sucked and just had a good streak for a bit. I never liked Rashad, still don't, but he's probably better than Woodley.

I guess that's a good point about usman thinking that way lol, haven't thought about it that way but you are right, haha, rare case of getting more exciting after getting the title lol. I can't imagine a world where Usman loses to Belal tho, let alone ragdolled.

I know people find Brady boring and I do agree with that. But I don't find him boring myself. I'm kinda surprised you put Gary in that list cuz I thought people at least thought he was kinda exciting lol. I never rated him myself.

Belal, you know, Belal is pretty boring. But full respect for the run he's on, and Leon, he's hella boring too and just got destroyed, but he was on a hell of a run too, so I tip my hat to him.

But overall, you are kinda right lol. Brady, Belal, Gary, Leon are not the most exciting foursome out there haha.

He fought a counter heavy game against Wonderboy, it is what it is. You forget how Wonderboy was destroying everyone standing and Woodley chose a boring path but still won. I do remember a small hype train after the Lawler KO, but his era was during Conor's rise so he sort of took backseat to that, like 90 threads were about Conor and the next 10 was everyone else, probably why I thought he had no hype.

Garry barely out-wrestled MVP, skirted by points in plenty of fights, and talked like he's taking everyone's head off at WW. He hasn't finished anyone since D-Rod in 2023. I think the change in opinion for him was after Shavkat had a horrible performance so people softened on him for making it close.

Compare WW to LHW, where they have Pereira, Hill, Rountree, Jiri, and now you have guys like Ulberg who are usually exciting.

Coz Leon (he didnt do anything in this fight and showed poor fight iq..., btw how often we see 0 strikes from fighter in a whole second round) is boring point fighter and recently Brady proved he is boring as well... I know styles makes fights, but that was hard to watch, me and my friends were so happy it ended in 3rd round :) so we could move on...

No I remember, I like Wonderboy. I still maintain my stance on Woodley always being terrible and getting hyped up to the heavens. It was almost offensive the hype he was getting around here. It quickly disappeared though as it always does when he started losing.

I never rated Ian Garry personally. I think Paul Hughes is a way better fighter from Ireland. Never understood the hype. I mean like before people started jumping ship. But then again I wouldn't mind seeing Ian vs Brady though. Ian did show some good TDDs and I do think southpaw, though Leon got ragdolled, is probably still a better look against Brady. And Ian is fast on the feet and that length and speed could pose him some problems and he might be able to match that size and strength.

I don't want to sound like a hater, but I don't rate Ulberg much either lol. I don't think he's an exciting fighter either. He just has power, so I guess if it lands then it can finish people lol.

Damnit, I will say this though to leave on a positive note lol. Woodley had some good wins. Ian Garry had a great showing against Shavkat. And Pena thinks Ulberg is the hottest guy in MMA!

Damn the fight so traumatic it made you forget one of the rounds, I feel you lol

Yes it definitely wasn't an exciting fight lol. Leon just got ran over and neither guys are known for exciting fights lol.

I thought Leon might have been being honest about being off cuz in the early morning against Belal after he got dominated. If it wasn't, he was going to get destroyed here, or so I thought...but thought we should give him a benefit of a doubt maybe...

Oh well...

Fair enough lol. I don't like Woodley that much to defend him longer myself. Probably him giving Gastelum weight miss money back made me like the guy a little bit more enough to defend him.

The only thing with Ulberg I even like is really his age, he has the right timing to take over when the current guys age out. He's not very consistently exciting, but when he does engage it's exciting.

haha that's what i sometimes find myself in lol i'm like 'i don't even like this dude that much to spend this much time and effort to defend this guy' lol

I will say this though. Woodley did end Galvao's mma run and that was an ass whooping lol and he does have some wins over good guys. Never thought of him as much personally, but I've been wrong before too.

With ulberg, I just feel like he's nothing special, he is long, fast and hits hard, but we've seen this before time and time again. Nothing new that we haven't seen, and really doesn't stand out to me that much. I mean I think Hill when he was coming up the ranks were better than him and a lot more exciting.

But with that said, the guys like this who is long, big, powerful and fast, it's not necessarily an easy out. I don't look forward to finding out how he does though haha.

Maybe it was because Jan didn't shoot, but Ulberg did fight like he was ready for any takedown so I'll give him that, he kept distance on Jan and didn't overcommit when he needed to. Won't win a fight like that against Ankalaev, but we'll see where Ulberg goes. I'm thinking he's kind of like Stipe, maybe not better than any of the established guys, but he's going to be in his prime while they fade and get older.

Wait nvm, Ulberg is 34 years old wtf. Yeah, don't know what I was thinking. He's got a punchers chance his next couple fights to win the title before he gets sent down the ranks forever.

Brady is like watching paint dry
yeah, But honestly I'd still take it over edwards.

Edwards is so rare, normally when someone has a boring style they offset it with a captivating persona like Izzy, colby or chael, but Edwards is just the worst of both. There are cardboard Standees with more personality than Leon and he's the most boring non urgent, starring contest champion ever. I hope he loses 3 more in a row and gets cut honestly, Feed him to Neal/prates winner, and after he loses that, feed him to Micheal morales then cut him

Thing about ulberg is he seems to be improving fight over fight. He's not looking worse than he did last out. Against Jan he seemed to stick to the gameplan and get what he needed to get done, done. It wasn't exciting, it wasn't impressive but It was effective and at this point he needs the W's to get to the top. He knows how to win, and seems to be getting better at it.

He's had exciting fights too, a few times watching him I've thought he was fun to watch. It's not like he has some glaring weakness like Rountree where you know how to beat him with the right style. I think it's just he really doesn't have 1 aspect he's going to beat everyone with that I see.

I just don't see much in him to be honest, but I think it's all relative too, he's doing well for himself, he's long, big, athletic, powerful and fast, so relative to the field, he IS having success, and I guess he could have more. He's not an easy out for sure. But not necessarily one of guys that piques my interests.

Yes he's not young so definitely time isn't on his side..

lol Leon is definitely boring and one of what is worst about losing like that is, ufc might try to get him to pad up and comers, like Prates and Morales you mentioned. Those fights would have no upside to Leon but it will be possibly more difficult and likely lot more damaging for him too in terms of the toll it would take on his body during the fight. Against Brady and Belal, his face I don't think showed any signs of being in the fight, but against guys like that would be a whole different story.

Leon is a very strange case in a different way too. I mean he literally beat the second best WW of all time arguably and guy who gave that guy a run for his money twice. When that happens, usually the guy who done that doesn't crumble down like this right away, but oh boy he did.

It kinda takes the luster off the head kick win too in hindsight, it just makes it a lot more like a fluke of all flukes.

He gassed hard in this debut, so I'm sure he learned from him. I just don't see anything special or necessarily exciting about the guy. He's like Izzy without the kickboxing credentials and his technical striking abilities with counters and finishes.

With that said, the guys like that, who is willing to be boring to hell to get a win, with that power and speed and size, can be a tough out in that division right now. I guess he will probably fight someone ranked higher up soon in his next fight, so we will find out soon how far he could go. Just not my cup of tea and not someone I rate highly.

When you are that big and strong, you close your eyes and punch and kick, you are bound to have exciting fights too once a while lol.

But he could be a tricky puzzle to solve with his attributes and fighting style.

Tbf I posted this before the fight and Brady impressed me more than usual….not a fan , but how he fought against Leon was better then watching paint dry lol

he always pretty much fights like that lol it just was that leon seems to have provided least resistance out of all the guys he fought , almost lol.
