Media Rose’s grandfather died

Sorry to hear that.

That being said, that is not the reality of most jobs. And under those circumstances, you could have forced their hand to terminate you and followed up with a wrongful termination lawsuit. Odds are they would have settled, I'd guess a year's severance wouldn't have been out of the question. Knowing your rights or at least consulting someone who does would have changed the the options you had to weigh in that situation. Once you pulled the trigger, the company would have to determine if this was something they'd want to go to court over, and if they are worth their salt, they would say it isn't. If they are dumb, then you file and odds are they would settle.
Like I said it wouldn't have been them terminating me, it would've been me quitting. Not showing up to work is you quitting, the employer is just refusing to rehire you. Trust me i was pissed because i thought I had a legit case.

Now if I could go back in time I'd never tell my job about the funeral at all. I'd just call off and say I was at the hospital then fudge some paperwork (I just put a blank page over a piece of paper from my doctor so it has the hospital letter head on it and made 60 copies) saying I went to the hospital and I couldn't work for 72 hours. I did that in 2018 when my girlfriend rented a cabin but didn't give me enough time to tell my job.

Shitty situation but I've learned how to work around it since.

People are so precious over Rose we're actually seeing them claim right here that the organization that employs her, and Champion herself (Queen Zhang the First) should bend over backwards to accommodate the challenger.

It's crazy the lengths ppl will go to to justify this when it's Rose. Is there any other fighter in the UFC who gets this level of coddling from the fans?
<{hughesimpress}>

It's pathetic in my opinion, she already has only been fighting once a year in her prime (hasn't fought that much either 9-4 record) if she were a male she'd be 100% irrelevant in the UFC and Dana would cut her and nobody would give a damn. I'm a hardass but people die get over it life doesn't stop every time something bad happens.

Jake Shields and Khabib both fought shortly after their fathers died without hesitation, and I have more respect for them for being able to put their grief aside and carry on with their obligations.

Rose isn't exactly known as a mentally strong person. Not trying to make light of it, but she definitely seems to have some issues. I don't really like her but I genuinely feel bad for her, if that makes sense.

On top of that, I wouldn't fault anyone of they felt they did need time to be their best after a loss of a loved one.

shields fought within days of his dad passing.
I was close to my all of my grandparents and my sister. I didn’t close up shop. yes it’s painful. But to stop your career over a grandparent is a pretty new way of thinking.

edit*. And my father too. Sorry pops!! Lol. He would get a kick out of that.

Girls are different from boys, but I guess you wouldn't know that, being imprisoned in your mom's basement.

That is a pretty sad view. You should not respect a person more or less for how they deal with grief. Also, Khabib took a decent time off, so I bet you respect Cody Stamann even more for fighting a week after his 18 yo brother dies unexpectedly.

well yes. That is true character and no better assessment of character than going forward.
There is no greater judge of character than how you deal with crushing loss.

Condolences to her and her family. Same situation as earlier this year when people jumped on some random PTSD- nonsense about her being traumatized and ducking Andrade, who she then fought and beat. Shertards just love jumping to conclusions immediately, as if Dana isn't known to be a lier.

PTSD. From a dolly thrown at a bus?

This has nothing to do with Weili or the UFC for that matter. Rose can't fight, fine, book someone who can.

That's sad to hear. Condolences to Rose for losing her grandfather and to Pat Barry for losing his father.

Look a lot of people went through some personal stuff this year. Theres a lot of ways to turn down a fight, a death in the family is one of them. Rose doesn’t wanna fight

- Dana probably

I mean.... technically, it's all true, but sounds soooo scummy. Very accurate Dana quote.

Why? If someone in your family just died and the UFC asked if you want to fight shortly after would that be something you would or wouldn't rather due if you could just fight like a month or so later?

Stating that Rose doesn't want the fight implies she doesn't want to fight the champion, not that the problem is that she doesn't want to fight soon after a close relative died.

It's the usual unprofessional bullshit from the UFC trying to pressure someone into a fight they would rather take a little later due to legitimate life stuff that is important.

she literally declined the fight. Didn’t want to fight for the title months away.

it’s just fact.

Imagine judging someone based on how they mourn a death in the family.
What obligation does Rose have? She never signed a contract.

Shields wasn't all there mentally going into that fight with Jake and lost quickly, but let's be honest, he shouldn't have been in there that night and he paid for it. He's even talked about it. Nobody would have blamed him for pulling out of the fight if he decided to, not even Dana. Your dumbass would have probably been the only person upset about it if he had.

But why does 'dealing with a loss' means you have to fight? For all you know someone dealt with the loss just fine, but supported their mother or helped running a family business for a while?

Shields was already slated to fight Ellenberger but he went through with the fight as planned. He didn't really mention it at all leading up to the fight, didn't use it as an excuse either even though he ended up losing. All I meant was that he showed great fortitude in those difficult circumstances and admirably well in spite of it.

In hindsight he should have just pulled out, it was in the middle of his fight camp it happened and I believe his Dad was also his Coach and Manager.

His head wasn't in the game, he hadn't been finished in over ten years and Ellenberger flatlined him in less than a minute.

Respect to him for still stepping up though.

Shields fought on the same week of his father's passing. Like Khabib, Shields' dad was his coach.

Khabib had almost 4 months after his dad passed before he fought.

BIG DIFFERENCE

It’s her profession. And not only that. Her culmination of her entire life work is on the line. Grandpa wouldn’t want her to miss that.

I own a small business. A butcher shop. I’ve had the same 4 guys with me for over a decade.
I have lost a lot over that time. And some have as well. I never closed a day in that time. I went to funerals and if I could make it back to work. I made it back. They can go to funerals and take the day or next off. And we’ll see what they want to do. But it would never be over a week under any foreseeable circumstance. But it just depends on the circumstances. If I wasn’t close to these guys I would think differently.

of course i am more than happy ( not happy as were small every man is important) to let them take some days to grieve. But you get through it. . But you just have to keep going. Being sad and miserable and doing nothing only makes it so much worse.
Life can be just brutal. You just have to keep going.
