GSP went to Abu Dhabi (iirc) during Anderson vs Maia and was shown on the broadcast and they said he was going to come in the cage after the match.

Then... as I recall, Anderson did his dumb shenanigans and Dana had a temper tantrum, where he oddly said he would "make it up to (the fans)" ... and they never did the fight

actually the fight that everyone wanted to see was gsp / anderson. that would have been the superfight of all time.

Pereira has far more top ranked wins and belts than khabib.

Pereiras legacy, based on actual accomplishments and not mythic what-ifs, is way stronger than khabibs

Khabib makes no sense, while he was struggling on the prelims with Pat Healy and then getting beat by Tibau, GSP was retired from UFC!. I think you are getting confused with Anderson, it was Anderson vs GSP that was the big superfight that was talked about for years and had a lot of buzz and hype about it, many thought it would happen, but it never did.

How did they ever fuck that up? Boat loads of money to be made, and all you had to do was write a check they couldn't say no to.

They wanted them to do the fight on their regular contracts as a part of their routine fights. GSP and Silva wanted something separate for that particular fight. Dana never caved

You don't think time would have made a difference whatsoever? Khabib didn't fill out his frame at all or become a more complete fighter? And GSP hadn't aged at all during his time off? I wouldn't be so sure of anything around that fight based on either the Tibau fight or how GSP looked in his prime.
