In Illinois you're wrong. No one forced you to quit. You did that voluntarily by not showing. What you're attempting to do is strong arm your job into giving you a day off even though they said you can't.

I don't know what state you live in but not showing up to work when you are scheduled is called job abandonment aka quitting. And all it takes is 1 miss day to kick it.

Feel free to show me a anything where not showing up for one day is deemed your resignation. I don't believe Illinois is unique in this scenario. I was under the impression it was a standard at will employment state. I really don't believe Illinois is unique here, I can't point to the specific law in California either, but I have watched many settlement payments cross my desk. So I get it if you can't point to any law.

What is job abandonment?
Job abandonment is where an employee:

Doesn’t have the authorization to miss work.
Doesn’t show up to work for a specified number of days.
Fails to communicate their reasons for missing work (or they have no intention of returning to work).

(You see where it says does not have authorization to miss work right?)

You miss 1 scheduled day and your employer can take as quitting or job abandonment. And because you quit or abandoned your job you're not entitled to unemployment coverage. They did mention in California though that medical exemptions exists but if you say you have to go to a funeral, don't get the okay, miss work and go anyway that's quitting aka job abandonment.

Very interesting everything I’m reading is the rule of thumb is three days but it’s just a. Rule of thumb. Trying to find out more around this. Very good to know. Appreciate it. Will respond if I find out more interesting stuff on it.
