If anyone really wants to know why they (media) wont pay to go on, Ben Fowlkes went thru it on his Podcast.. (Its not groundbreaking stuff though.) I have no idea why Fowlkes hasnt got a bigger following nowadays, I used to love him on Junkie, probably because of this whole The Athletic debacle though.

I hope he doesn't get mad at me for linking to an unlisted episode though.. its timestamped and ready. Maybe it can gain him a follower or two.

Was a fan of Fowlkes from his work on MMA Junkie. Considered him the best MMA writer. Also would like to know what "The Athletic" debacle was about. I looked at their home page and it seems they don't have very much MMA content. Did they scale it way back from when they brought Fowlkes and some others over?

The Athletic hired a bunch of talented MMA Journlalists, like Ben Fowlkes, Chuck Mendinhall, etc to write long-form and much more in-depth work.

However, it didn't last all that long and they gutted the whole MMA section. It was a very big step backwards for MMA journalism because the only places that are hiring are places that don't want real journalism. If you want real MMA journalism, you have to go on BloodyElbow.

Look I’m on side Ariel here, but I will say that where there is fire there is smoke, and with Ariel there has been lottttt of smoke throughout the years. I dont think hes as innocent as he makes himself out to be, buttttt then again he did read out the communication between himself and Paddy’s side word for word, so its not like we’re left in the dark of what was said.

I didn’t kill my own argument! He heard about him returning from some higher ups in the UFC and a surprise promo was already prepared and ready. He acted like he broke a story that would never come to light. When all we did was ruin the surprise shortly happening after he leaked the information which pissed off the wrong person. He did what he did, and the UFC did what they did. Now Ariel has no behind the scenes access which, for sure hasn’t helped his career.

Imagine you wanted to be a basketball journalist and the commissioner of the NBA bans you from behind the scenes access and extra information. Definitely detrimental to your career!

I wonder how many times Ariel thinks about that day and if it was worth it?
