No Limit Hold 'Em Poker Discussion

So the site I play on has an .11 cents buyin for a GTD $500 tournament. They do it once every night. I just binked that shit for $87.

It had 676 players. I'm happy and proud if I must say.

Run is over! Lost 150 yesterday.

That did include losing a 1000ish pot early with 55v99 on a 9 5 3 board, so all in all not too bad.

Ever play a hand where at the end you're like "WTF happened there??"

2/2 playing 1000.

Straddled to 4. Cut off (has about 650) raises to 15. I look down at KhKd. I raise to 45. Cut off calls.

Flop comes 7d 8c Qh. Cut off checks. I bet 40. Cut off check raises to 130. I call.

Turn comes 3d. Cut off bets 150. I decide to go with it and push all in for about 470 effective......and he literally beats me into the pot. I'm thinking, shit must be 77 or 88. I show my KK, he doesn't show.

River comes Jd. He shows 4d 5d.

Guy then gets up and leaves.

Legit thought in my head I must have been cheated somehow <45>

All the time I have these WTF hands every day. Yesterday I'm deep in a tournament, not in the money yet but very close. Blinds 3000/6000 me and V in this hand both have about 60,000. I'm in the BB with 23dd, 3 players in the hand before me, I check. Flop comes 456 with 2 hearts. On me to act, now I don't have the nuts but I'm confident nobody has 78 here this deep. I don't want to let the flush draw or the 7 draw without paying to see the board and I'd be ok taking the pot down. I push all in. I get snapped off by one V and the other 2 folds. This dude flips over 89o. Of course he hits his 7 and I'm out. I'm sitting there thinking what in the fuck just happened.

How big was the tournament buy in?

Used to see shit like that all the time yeah.......think some people just get bored with the grind after a while (especially at the smaller stakes) and say "fuck it, i'll get a big stack or go do something else".

It was a $10+1. You're probably right or he might have been tilted from a previous hand, it was just weird like why the hell was he even in the hand? And then to call, damn. Usually there's a lot tighter play when close to the money. Left me thinking what the fuck for sure though.

89, being overweight for the majority of your life, is a hell of a run.

Seemed to have kept his faculties until the end.

A life well led.

RIP

Thanks man I know it was great. I've won a few tournaments before but that was the largest player pool. The previous record was something like 480 players.

Honestly I'm not as good as I used to be back when I was playing everyday but I've been getting back into it lately. MTT's that is. The site in addition to the .11 cents buyin for the daily $500 GTD, they run a .11 cents buyin for a 5k GTD tournament every week. Yesterday it had 985 players and I had a top 20 stack with 138 players left. I called off an all in with AQo and I've been beating myself up for it because I was in a good position and old me wouldn't have made that mistake. First was $835 ouch.

I just started playing real cash games recently, only previous experience was playing with fake chips or for nickel/dimes blinds with friends back in the day.

Joined a local club playing $1/3 no limit games and had a hell of a run at first, in 2 weeks I played 7 days and my net profit was around $6,700 having only started with $400 on the first day. 6 out of 7 days I left with profits, only losing money on one day.

Eventually I got tilted by an older lady that works there when she kind of rushed me to move tables whilst I had pocket jacks and the pot was building pre-flop with 1 player having already opened with a $40 raise and two more behind me having called.
Me being a newbie without any GTO knowledge and playing stingy and not having enough time to think about it being distracted by this lady I just folded, and as soon as I get up I see another jack comes in the flop and I got pissed.
Was up $1000 at that point and by the time I left I lost it all plus the $1000 I walked in with.
The lady came up to me said how did you do? And I vented and told her I lost and that they shouldn’t rush players or distract them in the middle of action, manager overheard and agreed with me but I felt even worse having unleashed negativity towards an older lady, even though I didn’t make a big deal or a total scene I should have just kept it to myself.

I started losing back to back after that so I just stopped going to let the negative vibes be washed away.

Been there and once you get a little tilted it's not a bad idea to stop playing until you've moved on. You don't have to play GTO if you are only going to see the players you're playing with only one time or every now and then. Exploitative poker is still very viable in live games and can be preferred since the skill level live is lower and in some cases you're playing against drunks. The very best players aren't typically at a 1/3. Good luck.

Temperament and bankroll management are the most important things followed by game selection

Always good to take a breather and get away from game when things aren’t going your way

Someone give me your opinion.

Who is the best player right now?

Addamo?

Foxen?

Negreanu?

The best approach, imo, is to have a dedicated strategy and to blend that with GTO broad play and situational exploits.

Knowing GTO is more useful when you'll see the same opponents all the time. You absolutely have to adapt. But when it's like a one time thing or something you do only occasionally it's not all that important.

On another note, man I've been tilted for like 2 days and haven't played. I was playing a 5k GTD that started with 1059 players and fucking twice in this tournament I lost AA to KK. First time guy hit a straight and the next time hit a set basically knocking me out at 161 place. I know, standard stuff but I'm still tilted. It feels like a 4 figure loss.
