No Limit Hold 'Em Poker Discussion

Someone give me your opinion.

Who is the best player right now?

Addamo?

Foxen?

Negreanu?

too broad of a question to answer. Overall poker? Or hold ‘em specifically? Cash or tourney or both? Counting bracelets or not? How much money they’ve won in tourneys?

but even if you gave me the specifics I wouldn’t know depending on which format you are talking about. The overall GOAT would be Ivey according to Negreanu.

For what discipline? NLH tournaments? There's never gonna be a single player who should be described as the best, imo......rather a group of 10-20 elite players.

If I had to choose one player to stake tomorrow it would be Stephen Chidwick.

Literally the first hand I played yesterday. 1/2, 500 bb.

Had 5d6d on a 4d 7d 8c 3h, board.

Villain 3 bets me all in. I say "I guess you have 8 8, right?". He shows 8 8. I agree to his request to run it 3 times. I lose all 3. FML.

Actually still managed to end up +750, but as is the way, that's the only one I'll remember.

Funnily enough the biggest pot I won was another flopped sstraight vs top set a few hours later.

It depends. For NLHE there's cash games and tournaments. Then with the cash games there's heads up, 6 max players, and full 9 ring players. All three are different and the strategies are different for each one. Heads up would probably be Doug Polk and the 6 max players would probably be someone like Trueteller, LLinuslove, or otb_Redbaron. Then the other poker variants you have to consider. Phil Galfond would be a good answer if it's mixed games.

Bryn Kenney has been killing it in tournaments and is probably the best in the world at this moment at his craft.

Answer it how you feel and give your opinions why.

I'm taking Foxen. But I love hearing about other great players.

DN got under my skin lately, but seeing him grow in heads up play has been pretty wild.

I can't buy into Kenney unless I know he's playing clean.

It's a straight up question.

Who do YOU think is the best.

I like hearing about great players, and I like to hear folks opinions on why they find them to be great. Frame it how you like for your response.

This isn't rocket surgery.

Oh he definitely isn't the best human on this planet but I just expect most poker players to be degenerates and assume overall are not good people. You might be interested in this thread and if you haven't visited 2+2 before. If you ever get really bored you can go back to like year 2000 to their archived message boards and read.

lmfao.

DNegs can only play curated games.

He's done beating fields.

Just found out about a poker league in my city.

They play nightly tournaments at different pubs, the seem to field ~30 players for each tournament.

You get points depending on where you place in the tournament.

At the end of their "season" they take the player with the highest point total from each stop and they all play a tournament, the 1st place prize for that one is 3-5k.

I think I'm going to start playing it just for the reps.

Lmao I might be wrong about D Negs

Played first time in a month yesterday. Took 1000 to a 1/2 game.

Bought in for 300.

Second hand folded to button, who made it 10. I'm in the SB with QQ. Raise to 28. Button (who is not very good) tanks for 45 seconds then ships all in (has me covered). I call. He shows AKo. Lost that one.

Rebuy for 350.

Couple of limps. I'm on the button with 66. Raise to 15. BB calls. One of the limpers raises to 35. I decide to set mine. Heads up. Flop comes 655. Bingo. Guy leads for 50. I'm sure he has an over pair and he won't fold so just go all in. He snaps with KK. King hits on the river.

Neck a beer then Rebuy for 350

4 hands in. Straddle is now on. Raise in front of me to 15 (by same guy who just hit the king). I look down at AA in the cut off. I make it 40. Folds back to raiser who makes it a 100. I think for 15 seconds then push. He insta calls with JJ. I flop an ace on an all heart board. He has Jh. You know the rest.......

Apart from those, I also got a walk with KK and a fold when I 3 bet AA on the button.

In summary played barely an hour (maybe 25 hands), got monster after monster, and still lost. One of those days I should have been up a ton, but the god's decided to punish me.

That's never wrong. To this day Daniel Negreanu says as much. There's a few guys though that are just plain killers.

I posted a while back about DNeg not being able to beat a field anymore, and that was in relation to how he plays bracelet events. He is still incredibly good at placing other players ranges, making reads, sizing bets and getting it in "good". He just seems to be at a place where he is better suited for the smaller high roller events.

Anyone else keeping up with the Main Event? It's day 6 with 78 left. Check out Alec Torelli sitting at 8th in chip count.

Honestly find it just about the least interesting (major) tournament of the year to follow.

The whole WSOP gimmick is a bit tedious outside of a few events, imo.

Far prefer watching the high roller triton tournaments, for example.
